Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt and Maria Shriver are opening up about navigating their new relationship as mother and grandmother.

“My mom and I are incredibly close,” Schwarzenegger Pratt told TODAY.com, explaining that she wants to raise her children exactly like she was raised.

She shares daughters Lyla, 3, and Eloise, 1, with husband Chris Pratt, and is also stepmother to Pratt’s son Jack.

Schwarzenegger Pratt and Shriver have now teamed up for THE GRANDMOTHER PROJECT, a new series that will see them talking to other celebrity mother-daughter pairs about the challenges of working together to raise kids. THE GRANDMOTHER PROJECT is part of Schwarzenegger Pratt’s “BDA Baby” Instagram series.

“We saw all these people experiencing the ups and downs of their new roles in life and not talking about it,” Schwarzenegger Pratt explained.

Shriver added, “There’s a lot of grandparents who are asking questions, trying to find out how parenting has changed since they were parenting. I’m figuring it out as I go along and I’m asking people who are ahead of me what did they learn, what did they wish they would have known, what works, what doesn’t.”

Schwarzenegger Pratt posted a first look at the series’ first episode, featuring Gayle King and her daughter Kirby.

“We loved chatting with these amazing ladies and loved hearing about Kirby’s experience as a new mama and how she has watched her mom, Gayle, step into her new role as a Gaila!” she wrote

Schwarzenegger Pratt often shares her admiration for Shriver on social media. In a recent birthday post, she wrote, “You are perfection! Best mama, best mama g and best human. I love you, admire you and respect you immensely. Feel all the love today and every single day!”

Movieguide® previously reported on the family traditions Schwarzenegger Pratt has taken from her childhood and introduced to her children:

Schwarzenegger Pratt said she has started doing her childhood traditions with her own kids, Lyla, 3, and Eloise, 1, including wearing matching pajamas and going to church on Christmas Eve.

“It’s crazy to be able to have my girls be a similar age difference as Christina [her sister] and I, so it’s exciting to think that they’d be able to do a lot of the same traditions,” she said.

Schwarzenegger Pratt also shared another sweet holiday tradition in an interview with PEOPLE.

“My mom and my older daughter, Lyla, try to do everything matching. So I’m really excited as we go into this holiday season that they have another outfit to be matching in, because they are very connected in that way,” she said
