Kathie Lee Gifford on the Mend After Fracturing Pelvis
By Movieguide® Contributor
Talk show host Kathie Lee Gifford was hospitalized recently after falling and fracturing her pelvis in two places.
The 70-year-old former TODAY show host partly blames herself for pushing her body too hard by moving 300 books by herself before the incident. The next day, she was walking to her front door and tripped.
She shared more about the accident with PEOPLE.
“It didn’t take much, because I was weak in that spot. And the next thing you know, I am back in the hospital with a fractured pelvis, the front and the back. That’s more painful than anything I went through with the hip. The pelvis is unbelievably painful. But anyway, here I am.”
To add to the injury, Gifford had just recently undergone and recovered from a hip replacement. Movieguide® previously reported:
TV host, singer-songwriter and author Kathie Lee Gifford opened up about her painful recovery journey after undergoing hip replacement surgery and the lesson she learned.
Gifford called the surgery “one of the most painful situations of my entire life.”
“It’s been really hard,” she added.
Gifford wanted to jump right back into normal life, but her body needed time to recover.
These experiences have been an eye-opener for her about the realities of aging.
“You think you know your body and the next thing you know, your body changes when you get older,” she added. “And as much as I don’t wanna think about it, I am.”
Although she’s now unable to do anything fun this summer, she’s looking at the positive side of things. For Gifford, this is an opportunity to rest and spend time with God.
“It’s summer for everybody but me,” she said. “But it’s OK. I’m going to get out to my little farm one of these days and stick my feet in my salt pool. The Lord is telling me it’s time to slow down. I’ve been running my whole life. The Lord is telling me, ‘You’ve planted a gazillion roses. Try smelling them.’”
She’s out of the hospital now and told Entertainment Tonight that she’s “doing well!”
“I’m happy to be out of the hospital,” Gifford added. “As lovely as all those people are to me, they really took good care of me, but there’s no place like home.”
