Katy Nichole Shares Testimony: ‘See His Goodness Through Me’

By Movieguide® Contributor

In a recent appearance on “The Candace Cameron Bure Podcast,” singer Katy Nichole shared the inspiration behind her single “Living Proof,” and an important part of her own testimony.

“The second week I had ever come to Nashville, I wrote this song,” Nichole said of the track. “So it was one of…the first few co-writes that I ever did. And I remember wanting to tell my story and wanting to tell it the right way, and I’ve learned over time that there really is no right way to do it, but just to remind people of how important their stories really are.”

For Nichole, “Living Proof” is all about the importance of testimonies and “telling of what God has done in your life [so] others will see the goodness of God.”

While the singer-songwriter makes sharing her story look easy, Nichole revealed that she actually had to talk to a counselor about it because “every time I would share it, I would want to break down because it was scary for me.”

“What I’ve learned is that I didn’t have the courage maybe on my own, but God had given me the courage to go out and share so that other people could see His goodness through me telling that story,” Nichole said.

She also shared some of her testimony with Bure, saying that the most important part was when she found God as a child.

Nichole recalled that she had come home from school one day, upset because a classmate had told her he worshiped Satan.

“I thought that everyone loved Jesus and everyone believed in Jesus,” Nichole said.

Her mother’s response was to ask Nichole if she believed in Jesus. When Nichole said yes, her mom said, “Let’s invite Him into your heart.”

They prayed, and Nichole remembered thinking, “I get to carry Jesus with me for the rest of my life.”

She went to school the next day and told her class, “I believe in Jesus, and you can’t stop me from believing.”

Nichole’s strong faith is part of every song she makes and has led to millions of streams and music awards.

She holds the record for the most weeks at No. 1 for a debut single by a female artist on both Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs (20 weeks) and Christian Airplay charts with hit single “In Jesus Name.”

“I’m just grateful to be a vessel that carries these words,” Nichole told Billboard. “I felt like my story is pretty messy and broken, but I knew God’s handprints are all over my life.”

In another interview, she shared how “grateful” she is to create music that can uplift others and give them hope.

“This is my heart. This is the expression of my relationship with God,” she said

Movieguide® previously reported on another part of Nichole’s testimony:

Despite her success, Nichole recently revealed that at one point she ‘wanted to give up.’

“I didn’t see the hope; I couldn’t find it,” she said on stage. “I had back surgery, and I was in a lot of pain. After I had the surgery, I just saw no hope. I reached the place where I grabbed a bottle of pills. I took it to the bathroom with me, and somehow, it fell out of my hands onto the floor, and the pills spilled everywhere.”

“In that moment, I heard the Lord say to me, ‘Hold on, I’m not done yet,’” she added.

After months of recovery, Nichole said that a rainbow in the sky gave her hope that God was not done with her story.

“I knew in that moment that the words that I was holding on to, the Lord’s words, were going to take me somewhere beautiful, and I trusted Him in that,” she said.
