Katy Perry: Gratitude to God Helped Me Fight Suicidal Thoughts

Pop star Katy Perry recently opened up about how gratitude to God helped her fight suicidal thoughts and depression.
“Every morning I wake up and it’s the very first thing I say, ‘Thank you God for today, I am grateful in every way. If it gets really hard I walk around and say, ‘I am grateful! … That’s been the light at the end of my tunnel.”
In 2017, just after the debut of her album “Witness” and break-up with Orlando Bloom, Perry was in a dark place.
“I had broken up with my boyfriend, who is now my baby-daddy-to-be, and then I was excited about flying high off the next record,” Perry said. “But the validation did not make me high, and so I just crashed.”
In her moments of despair, she turned to the faith of her youth.
Despite having moments of walking away from her Christian family, Perry says that she always held onto hope and that she wants to give hope back through her music.
Perry said that after her bout with suicidal thoughts, her knowledge that God is “much bigger” than circumstances made her thankful for life.
“My hope is that something bigger than me created me for a purpose and reason, that I’m not disposable,” Perry said.
“Gratitude is probably the thing that saved my life because if I did not find that, I would have wallowed in my own sadness and probably just jumped,” Perry said. “But I found the ways to be grateful.”
