KB Shares Best Advice: ‘Do Your Best, Trust God With the Rest’

Sadie Robertson Huff caught up with Christian rapper KB on her “WHOA That’s Good” podcast to dive into his new book and hear his perspective on trusting God.

“I [wrote “Dangerous Jesus”] to put this portrait of the Jesus of the Bible in front of people, in hopes that if you could see him for his power, his wonder, his beauty, his glory,” the rapper said. “That there would be no more convincing; you would become obsessed with what you see because he’s too beautiful for there to be any other reaction.”

“I wrote this book, particularly thinking about…millennials, folks who are on the edge of sort of losing their faith or those who have already walked away or those who’ve not considered Jesus,” KB told Huff.

It’s “chapter after chapter of all these different ways in which we might know Jesus for who he is and not the Jesus that often is imagined and mainstream in the world,” he added.

The book, endorsed by Jackie Hill Perry, Lecrae and Priscilla Shirer, reveals “KB’s vulnerability, humility and theological acumen…he extends to his readers an invitation to dive deeper into the surrendered life, which is an abundant life,” Shirer said.

KB also shared his best piece of advice, something he regularly tells his sons.

“It’s a simple, very elementary phrase,” KB told Huff. “It’s got a little rhyme to it. It is, ‘Do your best and trust God with the rest,'”

“I envision how things should be, and then when they don’t turn out that way, it’s like I’m almost having to attend the memorial service for my dying plan, or my dying dream or my dying expectation.”

“If you can learn to go as deep as you can with what you can do in terms of sharpening your skills, deepening your character staying sincere…you can be deeply connected to God and continue to sharpen your abilities and strengthen your character.”

The rapper continued, “Let God worry about how far that takes you. If that goes as wide as the world, Amen.”

“I just want to live a life that is full. It doesn’t need to be the most successful; it doesn’t have to have all the awards. I just want it to count for the kingdom, and I’m happy in that. So that’s what I mean when I’m teaching my boys this: Do your best, trust God with the rest,” KB concluded.

Movieguide® previously reported that KB told Huff how he trusted God when he decided to go on a dangerous mission trip:

“After a conversation with his wife about the dangers of the trip, KB said, ‘I felt overwhelmed with this sense of awe that God really is as good as He says. He is not going to lead me anywhere where anything that can happen that’s outside of His schedule. If I am following Him, not a hair on my head will be touched.’”

Movieguide® previously reported on KB’s book:

“Dangerous Jesus: Why the Only Thing More Risky than Getting Jesus Right Is Getting Jesus Wrong,”… explores the countercultural themes of Christ’s message.

‘From the moment He arrived on the scene, Jesus posed a threat to the unjust, a threat to the oppressors, and a threat to every semblance of authority wielded by the kingdom of darkness,’ a portion of the book reads. ‘He invaded the world with love for the forgotten, hope for the hopeless, and freedom for the bound. His ideas were disruptive, subversive, and scandalous to the world around Him.’
