Kelly Rizzo ‘Grateful For The Time’ She Shared With Late Husband Bob Saget
By Movieguide® Contributor
Two years after losing her husband, comedian Bob Saget, Kelly Rizzo says gratitude “helped me get through everything.”
“I am in a much better place now than I was in the very beginning,” she told PEOPLE. “Every day, every month, everything just continues to progress and evolve and get better. The second year has definitely given me the ability to look at videos, look at photos and have memories of Bob where I can actually laugh and appreciate them and smile. Versus, just feeling like it’s a gut punch every time I look at a video or see a photo. I’m actually able to appreciate those memories more.”
Rizzo said that now, her focus is on being “grateful for the time I did have with him, versus feeling robbed of the time we didn’t have together.”
In an interview with Extra, she shared how she’s also coping with feelings of guilt.
“You feel guilty if you have happy moments or if you’re not feeling sad all the time. You feel guilty about that, but then I learned that’s very normal,” Rizzo explained. “Now that enough time has passed, even his girls are always like… ‘That’s silly. Heavenly Bob wants you to be happy.’ Earthly Bob would’ve been like… ‘Not too happy.’”
Movieguide® previously reported on Rizzo’s relationship with Saget’s daughters:
She shared that Saget’s daughters were very supportive of her joining SPECIAL FORCES, saying, “They were just really excited for me, and I kept them, you know, in the loop throughout the whole process. They’re just true angels on Earth, and I’m forever grateful for them.”
Rizzo has previously spoken about the support she has received from Saget’s three daughters from his marriage to Sherri Kramer.
“I can’t imagine not having each other through this painful journey,” she said. “They are true miracles and angels and the gratitude I have that we have each other is immeasurable. I thank God for them every day.”
Rizzo plans to continue celebrating Saget’s life and legacy, telling PEOPLE, “I think that for as long as I live, I’m always going to want to be celebrating Bob and talking about Bob. It makes me happy to talk about him.”
“Not that I have to work hard to keep his legacy alive. It does that,” she continued. “But just anything I can do to just keep sharing the Bob love is what’s important to me.”
