Kentucky Basketball Star Uses Platform to Share Gospel: ‘Wouldn’t Be Here Without Him’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Kentucky basketball star Otega Oweh is off to one of the best seasons he’s ever had, shooting 15.6 points per game with a 50% field goal average, 34% from the three-point line and 78% from the free-throw line, according to Green Light Media.

Where does he get his confidence from? The answer is simple: Jesus.

“If being a Christian was easy, everyone would be a Christian, but there’s always going to be trials and tribulations because the people who are called to follow God go through it, and it’s a hard life,” Oweh said in an interview with CBN Sports.

“So there’s always got to be strong. Always there’s got to be bold and know that when there’s a task or a challenge it’s because God calls you for it,” he continued.

“Just trying to embrace it and use God as your peace, really,” the basketball star added. “I just want to use my skills to show that. I mean, I give God all the glory. So, I mean, I just do that every single day. God gets all the glory because I wouldn’t be here without him at all.”

In that same interview, CBN Sports asked Oweh how often he reads his Bible.

“Every morning,” he declared. “I try to read at least one verse, sometimes two every morning, ’cause, I mean, I’m no expert at all. Obviously, I still have a bunch of questions, so I don’t want to overwhelm myself with just trying to read as much as I can in one day. I just try and read one verse every morning.”

When it comes to prayer, Oweh asks God for “guidance and protection.”

“For Him to protect me and just give me the courage and the strength to go out there and do the things that I know I can and to just humble myself and to show the skills that He’s blessed me with in front of everybody,” he said.
