Longtime friends of the late Louis Gossett Jr., Kevin Sorbo and his wife Sam explained why the legendary actor was such a special man.
“We met many times through the years and it always was such a pleasure talking to him. And I always said, ‘Lou, someday we’re going to make a movie together.’ And he would always just laugh and say, ‘You let me know. You let me know,’” Kevin told KLTV.
That opportunity to work together finally came in 2019 when Kevin and Gossett Jr. starred in MIRACLE IN EAST TEXAS. Sam was a producer on the movie and fondly recalls her time working on set with Gossett Jr.
“You know, he was the real deal…he was a very gracious, very giving, very generous individual who lived out his belief system in real life and he was an inspiration, frankly to them, to us, to a lot of people,” Sam said.
“He’s an Oscar-winning actor, so we were walking on eggshells a little bit…I’d never met him and I was serving as a producer and so I wanted to make sure that everything went perfect, and he was the kind of guy that did the opposite of what you would expect from him…” she continued. “He was bigger than life, he was kind he was wonderful…He was cut from a different cloth.”
Gossett Jr. was a legendary actor best known for his roles in AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN, ENEMY MINE, IRON EAGLE and ROOTS. He died on March 29, surrounded by his family.
“It is with our heartfelt regret to confirm our beloved father passed away this morning. We would like to thank everyone for their condolences at this time. Please respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time,” the family said in a statement after his death.

“This is one of those rare films that combines comedy, drama, a little romance, and real-life events and we have been thrilled with the film festival awards we have already received,” Sorbo said of the movie. “As independent filmmakers we understand and continue to create trusted entertainment for the entire family. This is a message to the big studios on what families really want.”
The actor told The Stream that he was drawn to the script’s humor as well as the fact that it was based on a true story.
