Kevin James: ‘I’m Continuing to Learn to Be the Person That God Wants Me to Be’

Hollywood star Kevin James recently talked about his faith and reflected on his career in comedy, family-friendly movies like HERE COMES THE BOOM.
HERE COMES THE BOOM mirrors the story of David and Goliath and James reflected on “Goliath’s” in his life.
“My Goliath? I have tons of them. It’s raising your children the right way. It’s being a good husband. It’s being a good friend. It’s being a good son. It’s all these things. It’s doing the best in my work. In every way, it’s just becoming like that best version of myself that I can be. Honestly, that’s it, tackling it no matter what you do,” he told CBN News in an interview.
James recalled how his father would always take him and his family to church every Sunday and how faith became a vital role in his life from a young age.
“I knew, at times in my life, where I would not fall away completely out of the faith, but just not be as faithful and not learn as much. Later on in life, I just started coming back to it more and more. And I’m continuing to learn more and more each day and trying to be the person that God wants me to be.”
James also recalled how he fought for two scenes, which include the characters of the movie praying, to make the final cut.
“I wanted that. It’s a balancing act because I also don’t want it to be knocking people over the head with it. You don’t want to be preaching at people in film, but it is a part of it. It’s a part of my life,” the actor stated. “And it’s also a big part of the life that I noticed in a lot of fighters, these guys that go into the octagon and do that. It’s there. A lot of films choose to ignore it, and I just felt it fit right here. Again, I didn’t want to be overbearing with it, but I certainly wanted to get the message across that faith has something to do with this.”
James concluded, “I think there’s a huge lack of faith. I think it’s, like I said it’s become more and more about me and what we can do, ‘me, me, me’ and living for ourselves for this time. I think it hurts us not only in the afterlife, but I think it also hurts us while you’re here. I think it hurts us to live that way while you’re on earth.”

HERE COMES THE BOOM is a hilarious tale starring Kevin James. James plays Scott Voss, a public school biology teacher who’s lost his motivation. Scott learns that the wife of his friend, the music teacher is pregnant. However, the school plans on cutting the music program to save money. So, Scott decides to become a Mixed Martial Arts fighter to raise money for the music department. One of the immigrants he teaches in a citizenship class helps him learn how defend himself. Surprisingly, Scott regains his motivation for teaching through the sacrifices he makes.
HERE COMES THE BOOM has a Christian worldview where the characters read scripture, pray and sacrifice themselves for others. Kevin James’ character has a complete transformation once he sacrifices himself to save the music department. HERE COMES THE BOOM is a hilarious movie with a lot of heart and soul. The movie will have audiences rooting, cheering, clapping for victory and at the same time laughing out loud and tearing up at the inspirational moments. It does have fighting due to the story line, so some caution is advised.
