Kevin Sorbo Is Taking On Hollywood — One Inspiring Movie at a Time

Kevin Sorbo says his latest movie, THE FIRING SQUAD, is “a story about redemption.”
Sorbo discussed the movie during a recent appearance on the “Livin’ the Bream” podcast.
THE FIRING SQUAD is “based on the true story of three Christian prisoners who face execution in a third world country and how their joy in Christ results in a stunning conclusion,” per IMDb.

Based on a true story, THE FIRING SQUAD stars Kevin Sorbo as an American prisoner on death row in an Indonesia prison who becomes a prison pastor and ministers to two new prisoners, played by James Barrington and Cuba Gooding, Jr., who are also sentenced to die. The low budget sometimes hurts THE FIRING SQUAD, but the movie’s terrific ending packs an emotional punch and shows the redemptive power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
“This should go into every single prison, not only in America, but around the world,” Sorbo shared. “It’s really a story about redemption.”
Speaking about the audience reaction, the actor said,“We’re getting people standing up at the end of the movie applauding, people are crying — it’s [an] amazing, touching movie.”
Sorbo also talked about his dedication to making uplifting, faith-based content.
“I want to do movies that inspire people, motivate them, and realize that there is hope out there, there is potential for redemption out there, no matter what path you’re walking on,” he concluded.
In a statement about THE FIRING SQUAD, Sorbo said, “In today’s entertainment landscape, it’s crucial that we rally behind projects that uphold Christian values and share stories of faith. We have a battle to win in Hollywood. Films like this are powerful tools for spreading messages of hope and inspiration.”
One of the stars of the movie, Cuba Gooding, Jr., also shared a statement, saying, “Our nation, let alone the entire world, has appeared to move away from God in so many areas of society. It’s time for us to get back to our faith. Our film THE FIRING SQUAD was the first script I’ve read in a very long time that reminded me we are all surrounded by God’s love and that His faith is eternal. It’s a story of redemption, the likes of which I’ve not seen in a very long time.”

Cuba Gooding Jr. says his role in his latest movie, THE FIRING SQUAD, helped him rediscover his faith in God.
“It uncloaked again a renowned faith I have in God and the walk I have with Him. And it announced to the world don’t forget who this kid is and where he is from,” Gooding Jr. told CBN of his role in the movie.
He continued, “It’s one thing to say that you believe in God and say that you walk in faith. But, it is another thing to remind people exactly where my joy comes from. My mom said to me in the darkest time, she said son never let them take your joy. And that is the one thing that I insist on, as crazy as things get, I just got to keep smiling, because this is who I am.”
