Kirk Cameron Shares How He Believes The Nation Can Reverse the Moral Decline

By Movieguide® Contributor

Actor and evangelist Kirk Cameron recently sat down with Fox News to discuss the state of faith in America today, and it led him to share inspiration from a little-known story in the Bible.

According to a January 2022 Deseret News/Marist poll, 72% of responders say they believe the United States is heading in the wrong direction morally, but 53% say they pray daily.

In response, Cameron, host of the new show TAKEAWAYS on TBN says, “Those are great sounding numbers to me. The fact that the American people recognize that we’re heading in the wrong direction – that’s good news. It’s an awakening of our conscience, and that is what precedes us turning in the right direction.”

Cameron believes that revival among Christians is imminent and will “turn the whole nation during times of moral decline.”

Anchor Shannon Bream, who conducted the interview with Cameron, has authored two books on women of the Bible and asks Cameron to share the story of two strong women found in the Old Testament.

Beginning in Judges 4:4, Cameron relates the story of Deborah and Jael. Deborah, the leader of Israel, tells Barak to go into battle with the Canaanites and vanquish their leader. But when Barak says he will not go unless Deborah goes with them, she responds by saying “Certainly I will go with you. But because of the course you are taking, the honor will not be yours, for the Lord will deliver Sisera into the hands of a woman.” The evil Canaanite king Sisera flees, and Cameron says, “Jael engages Cicero by offering food and rest. Once he falls asleep, Jael drives a tent spike through his head.

“She sees him and knows he’s the evil king and instead of hiding from him hoping he will pass by, she engages him. She brings him into her tent, she gives him warm milk and covers him up with a rug to hide him and so he goes nappy nappy, and while he’s sleeping, she drives a tent peg with a mallet through the temple of his head and pins him to the floor dead.

“There are so many people today who see evil and just hope that it passes by them, that it comes to them last, instead of doing what Jael did. When should engage evil and defeat evil whether it’s in our homes, our children’s school, or culturally, politically, spiritually. And that’s the kind of person I want to be.”
