Hallmark Star Says ‘There’s Still Hope’ Amid California Wildfires

Hallmark actor Kristoffer Polaha is on a mission to spread hope after the horrific destruction of the Los Angeles-area wildfires.

“There are no words…but, in the face of so much destruction and chaos and horror and heartbreak, there is still hope,” Polaha wrote in a Jan. 10 Instagram post.

“My good friend Jerry and his family lost their home yesterday, as did many of our good friends in the most mind-boggling last 48+ hours,” he continued. “In the middle of grieving for our friends, new fires are breaking out and evacuation orders are lighting up our phones. It really is chaos, but Jerry said to me, and I quote, ‘God is so good, brother. So thankful we are all safe. James 1:2-4 is my life verse. Never been more true.'”

James 1:2-4 reads, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

“It may feel too soon to look towards hope, especially with round two of the devil winds headed our way on Monday, but we will rebuild, we will see another day,” Polaha added. “In the meantime, hang tight and stay safe out there. And love each other – now more than ever.”

The Palisades Fire, which began Jan. 7, is now at 70% containment after destroying or damaging 6,000 structures. The Eaton Fire, which began the same day, is now at 95% containment as of Jan. 23.

Polaha’s friend Jerry Cudzil also shared photos of his family’s destroyed home.

In one of the photos, he and his wife, Lorie, hold a sign that reads, “Please excuse this mess — We live here.”

“Ironically the one small metal sign we dug from the ashes,” Cudzil wrote. “The community has been amazing. Friends and family have been amazing. The outpouring of love and support is like nothing we have ever felt. We are sad about our loss and so grateful that we are safe.

“Please pray for the kids and pray for all those that lost everything. Thank you to everyone that has reached out. Please feel free to share. We are ok. Thank you all,” he continued.
