LA Rams Defensive Coordinator’s Quick Actions Saves Child from Drowning
By Movieguide® Contributor
While on a family vacation, Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris helped save 3-year-old Wyatt Stanley from drowning in a hotel pool.
“Truly a miracle,” Wyatt’s mom said. “We are truly so happy that Raheem was there, and Dr. Andrew was there, and — truly, again — a miracle. God placed them all directly where they needed to be.”
Morris reunited with Wyatt on GOOD MORNING AMERICA, where Wyatt and his mom got to give Morris thankful hugs.
“My kids are all in the pool and I just, I hear a scream. I see Wyatt laying poolside and he’s uh…he’s blue. And I could just feel the panic of it all, when you feel like you’re alone. And I just asked…where is the AED machine?” Morris recounted.
Morris ran to get the automated external defibrillator (AED), and by the time he got back, Dr. Andrew Oleksyn, an emergency room physician who also visited the hotel, had started chest compressions on Wyatt.
“I was able to hand the AED to him, get it open for him, put the pads on the child, and he ended up being OK,” said Morris. “When he said he had a pulse, I started clapping.”
Morris’s awareness was heightened because he recently received first aid, CPR, and AED instruction implemented by the Rams’ vice president of sports medicine and performance.
Movieguide® previously ran an article on one of Morris’s team’s former players, Odell Beckham Jr., who credited his ACL tear recovery to God.
“I know none of this would be possible without God. That’s why I think I’m in a place where energy has been lifted off of my shoulders and I just give it all to Him, because without Him I wouldn’t be here at all. I’m just truly blessed and I’m so thankful that He’s put me here in this position to be able to share my testimony. Hopefully it can inspire others who go through a rough time. And it doesn’t have to be just football, it can be life, or their job or their situation. Whatever it is, just to know, to keep going,” the wide receiver said.
