Lauren Daigle, CeCe Winans, Pentatonix and more are joining forces on Dec. 22 for the 25th ANNUAL A HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS to raise awareness about foster care and adoption.
“Performances by extraordinary artists including Lauren Daigle, Gavin DeGraw, David Foster & Katharine McPhee, Pentatonix and CeCe Winans will enhance the inspirational adoption stories of several American families. Katharine McPhee also serves as host for the evening,” CBS reported.
The event will advocate for the thousands of children in America in need of homes and to inspire foster care and adoption.
The Christian Beat shared heartbreaking statistics on this issue.
“Currently, there are close to 400,000 children in foster care in the U.S., more than a quarter of whom are hoping for a forever home,” the Christian Beat reported.
“These children lead difficult lives – only half graduate from high school, 5% graduate college and 20% become homeless soon after they age out of the system,” the source continued. “The child welfare system is sometimes described as the ‘highway to homelessness,’ as nationwide 50% of the homeless population was once in foster care.”
“Youth in foster care are resilient and have great potential to beat these odds. Given a home and a chance, these children can lead fulfilling, even extraordinary lives,” the Christian Beat concluded.
In honor of the event’s 25th anniversary, the show will share several inspirational stories from the past.
One such story is from 2018 about a boy named Ethan.
“Ethan’s early childhood was filled with heartache, drugs and violence. At age nine, he was placed in foster care. He spent years shuttling from home to home, from school to school… By age 16, he was afraid he was going to age out of the system, never finding his forever family,” CBS reported. “Karen and John Pascucci were parents to a 5-year-old daughter, but they knew they wanted to adopt an older child. When they met Ethan, they admired his kindness and his indomitable spirit.”
Ethan did so well with his new family that he won a rowing scholarship and graduated from college.
“Ethan’s is a great story. A young boy who kept the faith. Parents who believed. And they all got everything they hoped for, and more,” CBS concluded.
The event hopes to inspire others to step up and change the lives of children in need.
The 25th ANNUAL A HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS will air Dec. 22 at 8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT on CBS and stream on Paramount+.
Movieguide® previously reported on Daigle’s involvement with the event:
Lauren Daigle is promoting the importance of adoption with her latest musical project, CBS’ A HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS…
She continued, “I’ve seen some children’s stories that haven’t turned out the best. I’ve seen children get turned back into the hands of their predators. I’ve watched it in my own family’s story. When people ask me, ‘If you could do anything with your career,’ I always say I want to rewrite legislature for children in this country.”
“The show provides the opportunity to show how these kids’ lives have been transformed,” Daigle continued. “When you feel those children’s hearts and you see the ache that they have experienced and then how adoption can provide a sense of stability and worth. It’s pretty priceless.”
Daigle also shared that she has plans to adopt.
“I tell my friends all the time, ‘Why don’t we all just say we’ll adopt at least one kid and just see where that goes?’” she said. “I feel like if we all can do it together as a sisterhood, then we’ll be able to support each other.” Adds the star, “It’s like an adoption pact. I tell them I might adopt more children than I have biologically.”
