LeBron James Celebrates Son’s Return to Basketball After Health Crisis: ‘Proud’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Earlier this year, Bronny James, son of NBA legend LeBron James, suddenly collapsed at practice, putting his basketball dreams on hold.

Movieguide® previously reported on Bronny’s recovery:

Although James didn’t share why he was in Rochester, some speculate that it was for his son, Bronny James, who recently suffered cardiac arrest while training at the University of Southern California.

TODAY reported, “Bronny has previously been treated at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, though James didn’t explicitly say why he spent this past week there.”

A spokesperson for the James family said in a statement after Bronny’s cardiac arrest, “After a comprehensive initial evaluation at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center led by Dr. Merije Chukumerije and follow-up evaluations at the Mayo Clinic led by Dr. Michael J. Ackerman and Atlantic Health/Morristown Medical Center led by Dr. Matthew W. Martinez, the probable cause of Mr. James’ sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) has been identified. It is an anatomically and functionally significant Congenital Heart Defect which can and will be treated,” per TODAY.

The spokesperson added, “We are very confident in Bronny’s full recovery and return to basketball in the very near future. We will continue to provide updates to media and respectfully reiterate the family’s request for privacy.”

On December 10, he returned to the court.

Bronny, a guard for the University of Southern California, made his freshman debut Sunday night, and his father shared how proud he was on social media.

“Can’t even tell y’all how EMOTIONAL today was for me!” LeBron wrote. “I’m literally drained and all I can say is @bronny you’re simply INCREDIBLE!!…the wins and loses that will occur. You’ve already won the ultimate goal/championship and that’s LIFE!!! Proud of you kid and today you’ve given me more life! Thank you and I love you.”

Bronny himself reposted a photo on his Instagram story from USC Hoops Instagram that said, “OFFICIAL: @bronny is AVAILABLE for today’s game vs. Long Beach State.” Along with it, he wrote “AGTG,” which means “All Glory to God.”

Per The Athletic on October 2, “LeBron said Bronny had a successful surgery. ‘We’re happy to see where he is and what his future still has in store for him,’ LeBron said.”

There were many talks of the 38-year-old retiring after last season. However, LeBron has one goal before retirement.

“My senior year, I’ll be playing with my son,” he explained. “Wherever Bronny is, I’ll be there. I would do whatever it takes to play with my son for a year.”
