Lee Strobel Shares Conversation With Luis Palau: ‘You Will Never Regret Being Courageous For Christ’

By Movieguide®

THE CASE FOR HEAVEN, based on Lee Strobel’s bestselling book “The Case For Heaven: A Journalist Investigates Evidence For Life After Death,” is set to premier this week in 950 theaters nationwide.

“I think there’s a particular interest in this subject matter now because of the COVID outbreak,” Strobel said. “I think the topic of what does indeed happen after we leave this world is more relevant to a lot of people today than it was a couple of years ago.”

Movieguide®’s review of THE CASE FOR HEAVEN reads:

THE CASE FOR HEAVEN has good production values and addresses an enticing subject. Lee Strobel’s reflections from his book and about life carry the primary weight of the documentary. The movie affirms the Gospel message that we are sinners who deserve Hell, but that Jesus provides eternal life through His death and resurrection. It also has a strong emphasis on the importance of fatherhood and parenting. THE CASE FOR HEAVEN does contain some graphic descriptions of near-death experiences, demons and horrific dreams. However, these are animated and not graphic visually. MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for young viewers.

The documentary, directed by Mani Sandoval, follows Strobel and others who have had near-death experiences. Strobel almost died after passing out due to a rare medical condition called hyponatremia.

“I hovered between life and death for a while there and, I tell you, that’s a very clarifying experience,” Strobel said of the experience. “At that moment, nothing is more important than what happens when you close your eyes for the last time in this world.”

The writer says that his brush with death made him more hopeful about what awaits him after this life.

“As a Christian, I believe what the Bible teaches about Heaven, but I’ve got this skeptical streak because of my background in journalism and law,” he shared. “And so just seeing the evidence that bolsters the biblical teaching on heaven was an encouragement to me, and I think it has given me more confidence about what happens when I do pass from this world.

“The Bible says that no eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has ever conceived of what God has in store for those who love him,” Strobel continued. “So I think there are aspects to heaven we can’t understand at this point. And consequently, the Bible uses a lot of figurative language and metaphors to suggest what heaven will be like. We’re given a lot of hints about what heaven is like, but I don’t think we know with tremendous clarity what will actually transpire.”

Among some of the people featured in the documentary was evangelist Luis Palau, and Strobel says it was inspiring to get to have a conversation about faith with him.

Strobel said, “The thing that he said that moved me the most is he looked at me and he said, ‘Lee, when you get to the end of your life, and all is said and done, you will never regret being courageous for Christ.’ I think that’s an admonition or an encouragement for all Christians, that we’ll never regret those times we took a risk and we shared this good news that there is a party waiting for us in Heaven.”

Strobel’s testimony was previously shared in the Movieguide® Award-nominated movie, THE CASE FOR CHRIST.
