Democrats on the House Rules Committee voted 8-4 along party lines recently to reject an amendment stopping the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) from restoring the Fairness Doctrine on the airwaves.
“Tonight freedom was blocked from getting even a chance to be voted on,” Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) said.
Restoring the Fairness Doctrine would give the federal government control over political speech on the airwaves, especially on talk radio. Recently, the FCC proposed rules promoting stricter oversight over radio programming.
