Live-Action TEEN TITANS Movie Coming to DC Universe
By Movieguide® Contributor
DC Studios will create a live-action TEEN TITANS movie.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, “The Teen Titans were first introduced in the mid-1960s and featured Robin, Kid Flash, and Aqualad as well as Wonder Girl. Other teens such as Speedy, the sidekick to Green Arrow, joined the adventures later.”
While the comics were “skewed young,” they became DC’s No. 1-selling comic after Marv Wolfman and George Perez relaunched them in the 1980s.
“The run matured the characters, defined personalities and relationships, introduced true archenemies, with many themes and ideas that still reverberate in the comics and other storytelling forms in modern times,” THR noted.
The TEEN TITANS will see a “version of Robin, one of the most popular legacy hero titles in superhero comics, appear in a non-Batman live-action movie for the first time. Robin is a mantle that has passed through multiple different DC characters, both male and female, with the young hero’s first live-action movie appearance dating back to 1966’s BATMAN, which brought back Burt Ward as Dick Grayson/Robin from Batman’s live-action TV series starring Adam West as Bruce Wayne,” Screen Rant reported.
While no definite release date or cast has been announced, SUPERGIRL: WOMAN OF TOMORROW writer Ana Nogueira will pen the screenplay.
She first joined DC Studios in November, and CEO James Gunn shared his excitement about having her on his team.
“A hearty public welcome to Ana Nogueira to the DC Studios family. Ana is an amazing writer whose screenplay adaptation of WOMAN OF TOMORROW is above and beyond anything I hoped it would be. We’re excited to be moving forward on this unique take on Supergirl in this beautiful, star-spanning tale,” Gunn wrote on Instagram.
Movieguide® previously reported on Gunn’s plans for the DC Universe:
During a Q&A on Threads, James Gunn clarified fans’ questions about his upcoming SUPERMAN movie, including parts of its plot and where it falls within the DC universe.
While Gunn is keeping specifics about the movie under wraps, he shared that it will differ from the superhero’s traditional story. Rather than rehashing old plots, Warner Bros. has called the movie a “workplace origin story.”
This step in a new direction mirrors the plan for the DC universe, as SUPERMAN will kick off a new era for DC. Rather than building off previous movies, the Gunn-led universe will stand alone from other DC storylines. DC will also continue to produce movies outside of Gunn’s canon, such as THE BATMAN II, a sequel to the 2022 Oscar nominee.
While many superhero fans – and general moviegoers – would assert that Marvel won the superhero franchise war, Gunn believes his vision is much grander than the Avengers.
