LL Cool J just returned NCIS, and his character, Sam Hanna, shared some updates about what else is going on with NCISverse favorites.

The first update? Hanna is no longer an NCIS agent. He decided he needed “a change of pace” and asked for a leave of absence after he witnessed the death of his NCIS ELITE team on NCIS: HAWAII Season 3.

Now, he works in DC and is “defending freedom with a laser pointer.” Hanna tries to convince congressman that military interdictions, which won’t help them get elected, are vitally important.

Sam also updated fans on G Callen, who is no longer a “lone wolf.”

“He and [wife] Anna are expecting a new pup,” which is not a puppy but “a human baby.”

Pearl Harbor SAC Jane Tennant is staying busy with her growing kids. Her son Alex is in college, while her daughter Julie, now 15, is in the throws of teenager-hood.

“So let’s just say this keeps her out of trouble,” Hanna tells the team.

As far as Henrietta “Hetty” Lange’s status, the only thing viewers know is that Hanna is quitting his job to (possibly?) help her out. Hanna and Leon Vance discussed in NCIS Season 22, Episode 18:

“Seeing your team, working shoulder to shoulder with them, reminded me how much I missed it,” Sam said to Vance.

Vance told Sam, “Well, you always were a team player, like any good SEAL. There’s always a place for you back at NCIS,” to which Sam responded, “I have some things I need to take care of first.”

“That wouldn’t have anything to do with Hetty, would it?” Vance asked. “I’ve heard rumors she’s been spotted on the wrong side of a DMZ.”

“It’s probably better the less you know,” Sam said.

A video posted on Instagram in late March revealed LL Cool J’s return to the show.

“Like no time has passed,” the caption reads.

According to Cinemablend, several NCIS stars were excited to have LL Cool J back on set.

“He is so much fun. I really, truly enjoy having him here,” Katrina Law said.

“It’s just fun. New dynamics. I mean, LL, he’s fantastic,” Sean Murray echoed.

Fans hope this won’t be Sam’s last appearance on NCIS as he told McGee, “See you around,” when the two departed.

While Hanna’s return to the NCISverse meant a few major updates about some favorite characters, fans will have to keep tuning in on Monday nights to see if he becomes a regular once again.
