‘Main Character’ Olympic Shooter Breaks the Internet With Mom Moment

In May, South Korea’s Kim Yeji calmly broke a world record ahead of the summer Olympics, showing no reaction to the news and breaking the internet with her cool demeanor.
“While her popularity has skyrocketed this Olympic Games, a recently unearthed clip of her performance during the International Shooting Sport Federation World Cup in Azerbaijan this past May was what initially kicked off her viral fame,” NBC News reported July 31. “In it, Kim is sporting a backward cap, sharp bob, glasses and signature stone cold glare. After the event, during which she broke the world record in the women’s 25m pistol, she told reporters that there was ‘nothing to improve’ before Paris.”
Fans responded in awe, noting her “main character energy,” saying she’s “the coolest” and like a “movie character.”
Elon Musk agreed. He said on X, “She should be cast in an action movie. No acting required!” and “Would be cool to have a shooting world champion in an action movie.”
Throughout her Olympic 10-meter air pistol competition on Sunday, Kim kept her daughter’s toy elephant by her side as she shot her pistol.
The “touching gesture” earned “her even more fans online,” The Guardian reported.
“Her daughter’s elephant doll was with her during the olympics? Kim Yeji is MOTHERING,” one person said.
Kim won a silver medal for Korea on Sunday. Her teammate, Ye Jin, who she lovingly calls her “little sister,” took home the gold.
“When she won the medal I was extra happy,” she said.
“This is a big stage, the Olympics, and we won the gold and silver,” Kim added. “When we won these medals, we were so proud we are Koreans. I thought it did not matter who won the gold.”
Movieguide® recently reported on another 2024 Olympian:
Brazilian street skateboarder Rayssa Leal pointed fans to God after she took home the bronze medal in the women’s street skateboarding event at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
When the cameras were on her, the athlete used American Sign Language to sign John 14:6: “Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.”
The 16-year-old skateboarder also took to her Instagram where she posted another Bible verse. This time it was Joshua 1:9. “Another chapter in my story,” Leal wrote on her Instagram. “Didn’t I command you? Be strong and courageous! Don’t get carried away or discouraged…” she included.
