Mario Lopez’s Family Gush Over Favorite Shows and Movies of 2024
By Movieguide® Contributor
SAVED BY THE BELL’s Mario Lopez and family shared their favorite movies and shows of 2024 at the Movieguide® Faith & Values Awards Gala on Feb. 7, which Lopez hosted.
“Tell them your favorite TV shows this year and your movie and why,” Lopez encouraged his 11-year-old son, Dominic, AKA Nico, on the red carpet.
“Well, my favorite TV show is COBRA KAI. I watched all six seasons twice,” Lopez’s son said with enthusiasm. “I love that show. I’m obsessed with it.”
“It’s my favorite show ‘cause I like a lot of action in shows and I’m starting to get to the point, starting to get older to where, like I don’t just all want action,” he explained. “I can understand like talking and stuff, too, like the drama and everything, but yeah COBRA KAI is my favorite show.”
Lopez, Nico and the Lopez’s eldest, Gia, got to have some fun at the COBRA KAI premiere of Season 6 last week.
“I’m so excited!” Nico said, clapping his hands in an Instagram video at the event.
At Movieguide®’s red carpet, Lopez’s wife, Courtney, admitted she loves documentaries and murder mysteries.
“She’s always making me watch Dateline with her!” Gia chimed in, earning laughter from all of the Lopez family.
“I really loved WICKED this year,” Gia said. “I watched it twice. I loved it!”
“Like there’s so many things I could say about it, but I literally — I love the songs,” she gushed. “I love…what it’s about, and I’m so sad that it’s going to take a whole year for part two to come out, but it’s okay. I’ll wait because I absolutely loved it. So it was a great movie.”

Lopez then asked his youngest, Santino, what his favorite show or movie is.
“THE MARIO MOVIE,” the 5-year-old said, adorably pronouncing “Mario” like “Ma-wee-o.”
“Who was your favorite character?” Movieguide® asked him.
“Mario,” he said.
“And what’s your favorite part?” Movieguide® asked.
“When Mario has a super star and beats Bowser,” he said, smiling.
Movieguide® loved THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE too. It won a Teddy Bear Award® and earned the title of Best Family Movie last year. This year’s gala will air on Great American Family Network on Mar. 6.
This month, Lopez said Nico has the stage bug.
“It’s funny because I did a movie this year with my son Dominic,” Lopez told PEOPLE, “and I’ve worked with my wife a lot.”
“My daughter’s done stuff, but my middle son, Dominic, is really into it,” he continued. “He wants to do more. People have already reached out to him. I wasn’t trying to encourage him or discourage him one way or the other. We’ve been trying to be supportive.”
Though he’s got a huge TV star for a dad, the kid doesn’t go to his pop for advice.
“He’s pretty confident,” Lopez explained. “I mean, he does wrestling. He faces a lot of scarier things.”
Lopez, Courtney and Nico all performed together in Great American Family’s ONCE UPON A CHRISTMAS WISH, which came out in December. Movieguide® gave it a +2 review.
