By Movieguide® Contributor
Apple TV+’s MASTERS OF THE AIR just broke the streamer’s record for most-watched debut.
Variety reported that the series “launched with more viewers in its opening weekend than any Apple TV+ series ever has in its first season.”
“Viewership across all of Apple TV+ climbed by 65% worldwide when compared to the previous seven-day period,” the outlet continued. “The streamer also maintained double-digit growth across more than 100 territories.”
According to Apple, MASTERS OF THE AIR follows WWII airmen who “risk their lives with the 100th Bomb Group,” and become “a brotherhood forged by courage, loss, and triumph.”
MASTERS OF THE AIR is based on a book by the same name by Donald L. Miller.
The series boasts plenty of star power, from executive producers Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks to stars Austin Butler, Callum Turner, Anthony Boyle, Nate Mann, Rafferty Law, Barry Keoghan, Josiah Cross, Branden Cook and Ncuti Gatwa.
The series has earned positive reviews, with Variety writing, “The series is massive, beautifully rendered and a reminder that war is murderous, gruesome and horrifically human.”
Digital Spy wrote that MASTERS OF THE AIR features “brilliant filmmaking,” adding, “The cast and production value here are second to none.”
A portion of the Movieguide® review for MASTERS OF THE AIR’s first two episodes reads:
Episode 1 and 2 of MASTERS OF THE AIR are exciting, suspenseful, and beautifully produced and acted. The music by Blake Neely is stirring and outstanding. The episodes honor the courage, talent and sacrifices of the men in. the 100th Bombing Group. However, they have intense violence and lots of foul language, including several “f” words and at least 15 strong profanities. So, MOVIEGIDE® advises extreme caution.
MASTERS OF THE AIR is currently airing on Apple TV+, with new episodes dropping each Friday. The finale will hit the streaming service March 15.
