Matt Damon Spent his First Hollywood Paycheck on his Mother
By Movieguide® Contributor
Matt Damon shocked his OPPENHEIMER co-stars when the three shared how they spent their first “big paycheck” from Hollywood.
“I bought my brother a car and I put my mom through her Ph.D. program,” Damon told The Hollywood Reporter. “That was a really cool feeling.”
Emily Blunt responded, “wow,” while Cillian Murphy nodded his head at Damon’s selflessness.
Damon was only 19 when he landed his first major role, starring as Charlie Robinson in RISING SON.
Blunt and Murphy revealed that they spent their first paycheck quite differently from Damon. Blunt used the money to rent an apartment and move away from her parents, while Murphy blew it on a sound system.
Damon’s willingness to give back to his family when he had so little speaks loudly to his character.
Movieguide® previously reported on Damon:
Matt Damon recently shared the piece of advice his wife gave him as he grappled with career difficulties.
“I think, without naming any particular movies, that sometimes you find yourself in a movie that you know perhaps might not be what you had hoped it would be, and you’re still making it,” Damonexplained.
He continued, “Halfway through production and you’ve still got months to go, and you’ve taken your family somewhere, and you’ve inconvenienced them,” he continued. “And I remember my wife pulling me up because I fell into a depression about, like, what have I done?”
Damon then shared the advice Luciana Barroso, his wife of 18 years, gave him.
