Matthew McConaughey’s son Levi took to Instagram to celebrate his dad’s 54th birthday, sharing a sweet post.

“People know Matthew Mcconaughey as an Actor and now a writer, but I know him as my father,” the 15-year-old captioned family photos. “The man who always makes time for us no matter what, the man who’s always there for us no matter what, and the man that taught me to appreciate the journey and not just the destination. The journey’s just getting started…Happy birthday Papai.”

Levi is relatively new to social media; McConaughey and wife Camila Alves only let him join social media platforms after his 15th birthday.

“He knows who he is, and he knows where he’s going. I think he can handle it. He’s got a great story to tell and share,” the actor said of his son’s entry into the online world. “Levi, enjoy the adventure, enjoying telling your story, expressing yourself and what you put out there and the exchange you get with people out there.”

McConaughey shared more of his parenting philosophy in an interview with PEOPLE.

“Responsibility breeds freedom,” he stated. “You take care of your stuff, chores, you take care of yourself, you will have more freedoms in the future.”

“I am raising three children right now and it’s a great adventure doing that – I want to see that through,” he said previously. “My only thing I never knew I wanted to be was a dad since I was eight years old.”

Movieguide® previously reported McConaughey’s thoughts on fatherhood:

Matthew McConaughey recently opened up about how parenthood has broadened his perspective and shared his parenting goals.

“When you become a parent, your peripheral vision becomes better, whereas before you’re a parent, you can have tunnel vision,” he told Extra.

“You can take one-trip tickets to anywhere you want to go. No more on-trip tickets when you become a parent,” McConaughey continued. “It’s round-trip tickets because you know you have to get back and you’ve got dependents.”

His parenting style focuses on letting his kids be kids and not putting the pressure of the world on them.

“Try to put what they love and what they have an innate ability to do in front of them,” the actor said. “Kids feel pressure more now. Feel like, ‘I gotta know what I’m gonna be.’ No, you don’t. Please don’t. Not yet. Now is the time to try a whole bunch of things out that will come. And I don’t want out kids to miss out being a kid.”
