Country Singer Explains Her Heart Behind New 9/11 Song

Country singer-songwriter Megan Maroney released a song on her new 14-track album Am I Okay? called “Heaven By Noon.” It pays tribute to her uncle who died during the attacks on 9/11.

“The song is inspired — a lot of people don’t know this, but my uncle died on 9/11,” Maroney told Taste of Country. “So, I kind of thought about my aunt when I was writing that song.

“The last thing they talked about was an oil change,” she added. “And so, that’s probably not what she would have wanted to say to him if she knew it was gonna be the last time. It’s definitely a heart-wrenching song.”

The lyrics to the song read:

Did you know how much I loved you?
Did I tell you enough?
I’ve been cryin’ since I got the call
Been beatin’ myself up
I’m angry at the sky
None of this feels right
Only God knows why
I wish I knew tonight

I know where you’re at
And there ain’t no time at all
No heartbreak
No more pain
Just streets of gold you get to walk
When I talked to you this mornin’
I said, “I’ll see you soon”
Would have said so much more if I only knew
That you’d be in Heaven by noon

Upon the release of her new album, Maroney told her followers on social media, “There’s love, heartbreak, strength, loss, and friendship. I hope these songs home with you. From the day I released ‘Lucky,’ I was told over and over my sophomore album would be the hardest to write. I thought that might be true until I did what I’ve always done…I felt deeply and unapologetically and wrote songs when my heart needed it.”
