Mel Gibson’s FLIGHT RISK Scores No. 1 Spot At Box Office

Mel Gibson’s FLIGHT RISK topped the box office this weekend, opening at No. 1.
Variety reported that the movie “landed in first place with $12 million from 3,161 North American theaters in its opening weekend,” adding that it “brought in another $4.2 million from 39 international territories over the weekend, boosting its worldwide haul to $16.2 million.”
FLIGHT RISK tells the story of a U.S. marshal’s efforts to transport a government witness to New York, which are complicated when she discovers the pilot of their plane is working against them. Moviegoers responded to its strong moral and patriotic worldview.

“It’s a blast,” star Mark Wahlberg said of playing a movie villain in an interview with Fox 5. “You think of movies like THE SHINING or CAPE FEAR, those are the most memorable things about the movie.”
Speaking about his acting career, Wahlberg said, “I was lucky enough that I grew up watching movies with my dad; I was introduced to the likes of Jimmy Cagney, John Garfield, Robert Ryan, Steve McQueen. So, I was always a student of the game. And then, when I came into making movies, I really felt like I found my niche…and 30 years later, I’m still fortunate enough to do it.”

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Wahlberg praised Gibson, saying, “He knew exactly what he wanted and how to get it, but he was also open to collaborating.”
“Having seen APOCALYPTO a million times and BRAVEHEART and every other film that he’s directed, he’s such a talented filmmaker,” he continued. “It was one of those things where, between the part and getting to work with the filmmaker, for me it’s always top of the list: the script, the director and the part are the three main components when making a choice.”
