Movieguide® Mourns the Passing of Friend and Benefactor,
Dr. John Templeton, President of the John Templeton Foundation
May 19, 2015
It is with great sadness that Movieguide® announces the passing this weekend of Dr. John M. Templeton, president of the John Templeton Foundation, a longtime friend and supporter of the Movieguide® and its mission to influence the mass media and teach children to be media wise.
Dr. Templeton founded the Kairos Prizes for Spiritually Uplifting Screenplays by Beginning Screenwriters in 2006 and the Chronos Prizes for Inspiring Screenplays by Established Filmmakers in 2013, which have become an integral part of Movieguide®’s Annual Faith & Values Awards Gala. His father, Sir John Templeton, founded the $100,000 Epiphany Prizes for Inspiring Movies & TV Programs, which began in 1996 at the Faith & Values Awards.
“Dr. Templeton and his father were great men of God who cared about the effects of the mass media on the hearts and minds of children all over the world,” Movieguide® Publisher Dr. Ted Baehr said.
“Jack became a great mentor to me personally and to this ministry,” he added. “He had a great heart for Jesus, and I’m certain the angels in Heaven are rejoicing now that he has come home to God. He and his dear wife, Pina, have been wonderful friends. Our deepest sympathies go to Pina and to Jack and Pina’s two daughters, six grandchildren and family in their time of mourning.”
