Country star Mickey Guyton is opening up about her son’s near-death experience, calling it “one of the scariest moments of [her] life.”

“My son [Grayson] got really sick with, like, a stomach bug, and I didn’t know what that entailed,” she said while appearing on THE JENNIFER HUDSON SHOW. “He got really, really, really dehydrated and three ER visits later, he had sepsis.”

“By the time that we got to the hospital, he wasn’t conscious. And I remember, they rushed into the back and everybody just came on top of him and just started taking his vitals and all that,” Guyton said. “I remember I looked at the nurse and I choked out the words, ‘Is he going to die?’ And the doctor said, she goes, ‘I’m not going to lie to you. I’m really concerned. Right now, he is the sickest person in the ER right now.’”

After hearing that, Guyton said she fell to her knees and started praying.

“It was truly one of the scariest moments of my life,” the singer shared. “And as a mother, after going through something like that, I now realize why our mothers were so crazy over us. I didn’t get it. I’m like, ‘Why are you so crazy Mom?’ And now I get it. I get it. And in that moment, I would’ve done anything to save his life. Without question, I would’ve taken the spot.”

That feeling inspired Guyton’s latest single, “Scary Love.”

“There’s so many types of love, but for parents who truly love their kids, there’s nothing we won’t do for them,” she said in a press release about the song. “That kind of love is so scary because your heart is literally outside of your body and you’re seeing your heart grow up and become somebody. All you want to do is protect this person — that’s the scariest love that you’ll ever experience.”

In an Instagram post about “Scary Love,” Guyton wrote, “I never understood why my mom was so crazy over me until I had a child of my own. I get it now…This song came out of an experience when I was so close to losing the love of my life, Grayson. Life is so precious and can change in an instant. Scary Love is about that.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Grayson’s health scare:

Country star Mickey Guyton has announced that her infant son is doing much better after a trip to the hospital that had him sent to the ICU.

On November 18, the singer posted that her 9 month-old son, Grayson, was taken to the ICU and that doctors were still unsure of what was wrong with him. A few days later, Guyton announced that he was on the mend, saying he was “getting better by the minute.”

In a statement posted to Twitter, the star said, “Hey guys I just wanted to give y’all an update on little Gray. My baby fell ill on November 11th, eventually requiring a trip to the icu. It turned out to be dehydration because of a severe stomach bug. Seeing my baby boy like this was truly terrifying.”

She also thanked the doctors who took care of her son and helped care for him, despite the hospital being at capacity and a nursing shortage.

“Grayson is doing much better, all signs are stable and improving,” Guyton continued. “He is still dehydrated and weak and has lost weight from not being able to retain any liquid. Despite all of this, Gray is a fighter and his labs are showing he is headed in the right direction. Please please please continue to pray for him.”
