Mike Rowe and His Mom Share a Laugh Over Family Vacation Memories

In a video on Mike Rowe’s YouTube channel titled “Mike Rowe and Peggy Can’t Talk About Thanksgiving,” the DIRTY JOBS star and his mom, Peggy, talk about everything but Thanksgiving — particularly funny vacation memories.
Rowe’s brother, Phillip, “got knocked over by a rogue wave. That’s what the fire department called it and [it] dragged [him] along the bottom and his ears filled with black sand…and he surfaced and screamed. You could hear him a mile away,” Peggy joked.
“And so we called 911, and they were there in no time and took him to a hospital that was quite a distance away, and I rode with him,” she continued. “He screamed the whole way. Those guys, man, they blew that siren the whole way so they wouldn’t have to hear Phillip.”
She recalled that on the way to their vacation destination at Virginia Beach, Mike’s brothers, Scott and Phillip, had a lot of car sickness. She kept having to pull over to let them throw up.
“And then our water thing, our water hose, or some hose in the car broke, and…it was just not a fun experience,” she said.
“When we got back from the hospital, I said to Phil, ‘You can get in the pool with the boys. It’ll be fun.’ They had a really nice big pool.”
But there was no one in the pool — which was odd since it was very hot outside. But they quickly found out why the pool was empty.
“Somebody had gone to the bathroom in the pool, and it floated to the top and it was floating around,” Peggy laughed.
“Yep,” Rowe remembered.
Peggy continued, “I said, ‘Oh, look it’s floating around like a buoy,’ and your smart brother Scott said, ‘Oh, it’s a pooy!’”

Rowe celebrated his mom’s 86th birthday in January. He shared on Instagram:
My mom, Peggy Rowe, is 86 years old today and hanging tough. She’s been busy these last few weeks looking after my dad, who continues to recover nicely from his Christmas surprise. If you’d like to join me in wishing her the happiest of birthdays, or, if you’d like me to pass along a message, please spell it out in the comments below.
As for you, Mother, I’m sorry I’m not in Baltimore today to celebrate another trip around the sun. But like you, I’m terribly busy doing a variety of important things. I sure do love you, though, and wish you many happy returns. As usual, there will be no sappy card for you to make fun of and then throw away. xoxo Mike
Many of his followers joined him in wishing Peggy a happy birthday.
While Rowe and his mom might not be a good combination to stay on topic for Thanksgiving, Rowe and the other speakers at this year’s Farmer’s Gratitude Summit are. This year, Rowe spoke at the summit in the spirit of thanksgiving. He shared his gratitude for farmers and how his work provides avenues for young people to obtain agriculture and trade jobs.
“The one and a half percent of the people in this country who feed the rest of us three times a day. It’s a miracle,” Rowe said at the first Summit last year.
