MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – DEAD RECKONING Arriving on Paramount+ This Month

Tom Cruise’s MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – DEAD RECKONING will arrive on Paramount+ this month.
Paramount+ announced the movie will be available to stream on Jan. 25.
In addition to the release date on Paramount+, the movie also received a new title after the PART ONE was dropped from the original name.
According to CBR, “Dropping the PART ONE part of the title coincides with previous reports that the upcoming sequel would no longer be subtitled as Dead Reckoning Part Two, now referred to internally at Paramount as MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 8. The two films are still directly connected, however, with MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 8 picking up directly after the events of Dead Reckoning. The two-part story was originally conceived as a send-off for Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt, though director Christopher McQuarrie has since teased that there could very well be more movies made after the eighth installment.”
In MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – DEAD RECKONING, “Ethan Hunt and his IMF team embark on their most dangerous mission yet: to track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands. With the fate of the world at stake, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than his mission – not even the lives of those he cares about most,” Variety wrote.
DEAD RECKONING didn’t perform as well at the box office as expected, earning $567 million in revenue worldwide.
Regardless, it received incredible ratings, and Movieguide® praised its “Very strong allegorical Christian worldview.” Part of the review reads:
MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – DEAD RECKONING PART ONE tells a gripping story of good versus evil. It’s a superlative, high stakes spy thriller with explosive action, gripping suspense and great characters. DEAD RECKONING PART ONE has a strong allegorical Christian worldview, with the theme that, “The Cross of Christ holds the key to destroy evil.” However, the movie has lots of strong action violence and some foul language, including four strong profanities. MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for teenagers and adults.
MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 8 is slated to hit theaters May 23, 2025, a delay from its initial 2024 release date. Movieguide® reported:
As the actors’ strike continues, Paramount has reworked the timeline for its major releases, pushing the next installment in Tom Cruise’s MISSION IMPOSSIBLE franchise to 2025.
MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: DEAD RECKONING – PART ONE, released in July of this year, was meant to be quickly followed by its sequel, DEAD RECKONING – PART TWO, only a year later. However, the actors’ strike has left the cast unable to work on the movie, making a July 2024 release impossible.
It is now slated for May 23, 2025.
With the delayed release date, producers have decided to rename the movie, dropping the DEAD RECKONING title for a different, yet-to-be-released name. The plot, however, is expected to play out as originally planned, picking up where the first movie left off.
