Missy Peregrym Welcomes Second Child, Will Return to Filming FBI This Fall
By Movieguide® Contributor
Missy Peregrym is now a mother to two children.
The FBI actress just welcomed daughter Mela Joséphine Oakley on June 6.
In a lengthy Instagram caption, Peregrym detailed the birth:
I had the most profound experience – after a hospital birth with Otis, I chose to partner with Jo @nettlewellness and Alice @alnewby to have a water birth at home. It’s usually all about the baby, but this time, I was also cared for in every way, before, during and after the birth. I was scared and supported, excited and cheered on, fully seen and heard. Lots of tears, questions and just as much laughter. I am so grateful I had the room to choose every step of the way, rewarded with the most calm, gentle entrance into the world for Mela. (I wouldn’t describe MY part of the birth gentle)
I can’t say enough about how much Tom stepped up to allow me to rest and do what I needed to be present. In no way has our journey been easy, but it has been full and I’m incredibly blessed that he’s my partner. On my left, holding my hand throughout the birth was @priscillafaia, my best. She turned down work to be with us, choosing to share in the transformation of our family, which she is a part of. I feel loved. I want this for every mother, that they would be surrounded with strength.
@fbicbs is starting up again in a couple weeks, but I will be returning to work in September. I’m relieved and grateful that I am afforded the space to bond with my family, to rest and heal and be a mother (which is harder than work!). I understand this is a luxury, and I wish every mother/parent/caretaker had this too.
Thank you for all the love, prayers and support from this community.
Peregrym and husband Tom Oakley are also parents to son Otis, who was born in 2020.
Movieguide® previously reported on her decision to take a break from FBI for maternity leave ahead of the birth of Mela:
FBI star Missy Peregrym recently announced that she would step away from the CBS show for a little on maternity leave.
“Tonight is my last episode of the season – you don’t want to miss it! I’m off for maternity leave now…,” she captioned an Instagram post.
So, how will the showrunners explain her character, Special Agent Maggie Bell’s, absence?
According to TV Line, her last episode before going on maternity leave sees her character and fellow agent O.A. (played by Zeeko Zaki) track down a terrorist. While they do manage to defeat the bad guy, Maggie gets trapped in a lab with an open container of deadly sarin gas.
Her character will make it out, but her exposure to the toxic gas means a lengthy recovery at the hospital – the perfect explanation for her absence.
“The reality is that [Maggie’s recovery] is a journey, it’s going to be a while,” showrunner Rick Eid said. “When she does come back, whenever that is, she’ll probably, for the most part, be the same ol’ Maggie, but she did go through something pretty traumatic. There are not only physical injuries but maybe some emotional ones, and that may affect how she sees the world and how she handles cases.”
