Movieguide® Award Winner to Direct SUPERWORLD: SAVE NOAH

Movieguide® award winner and director Yarrow Cheney is bringing his books to the big screen through a new movie called SUPERWORLD: SAVE NOAH.

“Every 12-year-old kid feels like they don’t fit in sometimes — but Noah takes it to a whole new level. When a meteor crashed to Earth on his seventh birthday, the whole planet got superpowers…except for Noah. Thanks to his tin foil superhero costume, Noah’s powers got deflected — onto his little sister. He’s literally the only normal person in all of Superworld. He can’t fly. He can’t scale tall buildings. He can’t turn broccoli into candy. (And of course his little sister got double powers. Of course.) And still…when the biggest, baddest villain in town plots to take over Superworld forever, normal Noah and his supercharged best friends are the ones who just might save the day. Seriously,” a synopsis reads.

“This adaptation will be directed by husband and wife duo, Yarrow and Carrie Cheney. The Cheneys have illustrious animation careers as they have been involved in classic animated movies such as THE POWERPUFF GIRLS MOVIE  (2002), THE LORAX (2012) and the DESPICABLE ME series. Yarrow would actually make his co-directorial debut with THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS (2016), then solo direct Benedict Cumberbatch’s THE GRINCH  (2018),” Inside the Magic reported.

Many of Yarrow’s previous works have focused on uplifting, redemptive themes.

“We were really trying to get to what Dr. Seuss had intended…which is this wonderful story about this rotten guy who’s not beyond redemption,” he told Movieguide® of his THE GRINCH adaptation.

The movie earned a +4 content rating and landed the Movieguide® Award for Best Movie for Families.

Movieguide® also praised THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS for its “strong moral, redemptive worldview about sacrificing yourself for a friend, being loyal and loving others.”

Hopefully, SUPERWORLD: SAVE NOAH will follow this trend as Paramount adds it to its lineup of upcoming movies.

“Paramount’s animation slate under various labels is ramping up in a big way. This past there was Paramount and Nickelodeon’s TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: MUTANT MAYHEM which grossed over $170M WW. Their co-production with Spinmaster, PAW PATROL: THE MIGHTY MOVIE open[ed] on Sept. 29. Then there’s TRANSFORMERS ONE on July 19, 2024 and an untitled SMURFS movie on February 14, 2025 and Paramount and Nickelodeon’s THE SPONGEBOB MOVIE: THE SEARCH FOR SQUAREPANTS on May 23, 2025,” Deadline reported.

Movieguide® previously reported on Cheney’s THE GRINCH (2018):

“That was the core of the film, that was the core of the message. It’s a message that means so much to me, you know, and so I think trying to find that and keep that and protect that in this film was a very important thing,” he added.

Other adaptations of Dr. Seuss’ book include HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS (2000) and the original animated version from 1966 with the same name.

Unlike its predecessors, THE GRINCH does not shy away from Christian songs, biblical themes, and the faith, love and redemption that point to Christ during the Christmas season.

Cheney added that they were sure to balance the faith and values with relatable humor to attract audiences from all walks of life.

“As Christians we are so joyful with our faith, and especially around Christmas time,” Chaney said. “[It was important] to have the Grinch’s point of view of, ‘these guys are a little bit overbearing,’ and to make that humorous, but also sincere and showing where he starts out knowing where he’s going.”
