Comic and actor Tom Green moved to the Canadian countryside during lockdown. Now, he won’t trade his land, chickens and donkeys for anything.

“I’m often in the wilderness,” THE TOM GREEN SHOW star told Fox News Digital last week. “There’s not a lot outside the farm as far as restaurants and conveniences. In California, it was nice to be able to do stand-up comedy every night.”

“It was nice to be able to have 200 different sushi restaurants you could go to,” he continued. “But…there’s nothing really I miss about living there, to be honest with you. It’s nice to be living in the country at the farm.”

The star displays his life on his 150-acre farm in his Prime Video series, TOM GREEN COUNTRY. Other nods to his country life are in THIS IS THE TOM GREEN DOCUMENTARY, his stand-up special TOM GREEN: I GOT A MULE! and his country album, Home to the Country.

Green kept a lot of footage from his shows over the years, which came in handy for the documentary.

“The show was pretty outrageous and kind of a crazy show,” he reflected. “It was done in those early days of home video before social media. I think it sometimes shocked people, confused people.”

“I was playing a little bit of a character or an amplified wild and crazy version of myself,” the former husband of Drew Barrymore said. “I think I wanted to put this documentary together to…set the record straight and let people…get to know what I’m all about.”

The documentary takes a serious look into Green’s life and success, but TOM GREEN COUNTRY is all laughs and reflection.

The synopsis reads: “TOM GREEN COUNTRY offers a funny and heartwarming glimpse into the hilarious life of the infamous comedian as he relocates from Los Angeles to a simpler life on his new remote farm…Tom scrambles to repair his century-old barns, build fences, install a chicken coop and take ownership of a variety of livestock! Has Tom Green finally bitten off more than he can chew?”

Green decided to move back to Canada after he traveled around in a camper van during the pandemic. His farm isn’t far from where he grew up and where his family still lives.

“They still talk to me,” he said. “Getting a farm close to my family, it’s been the best decision I’ve made, I think ever, really…It’s a lot different from Los Angeles, and I’m happy to be on the farm.”

The actor said LA was never home, even though he had “a lot of fun” there. He always missed Canada and wanted to be near his family.

He told Yahoo Canada that it was difficult to change the life he’s had for the last 20 years. And acquiring a huge property with animals was no small feat.

One skill he had to conquer was riding his 1,500-pound mule, Fanny.

“Fanny is a massive rideable mule, maybe the biggest rideable mule in Canada…I saddle her up every morning. I ride her out into the wilderness. I’ve really gotten to become very comfortable riding Fanny and using her just to get around the property. And it’s also been an extremely beautiful experience to be able to bond with an animal like that,” he said.

While Green still does comedy shows, his life is a lot more peaceful, calm and happy now.

“Doing things like fishing, hunting or just being outdoors can be very cathartic if it’s really in your heart,” he said. “If you feel that it’s in your heart, and you want to live a simpler, more rural lifestyle, you should do it, because I think you won’t regret it. It’s not for everyone, but it was a great choice for me.”

Green shares more insight into his country life in his specials, which are available on Prime now.
