MUFASA: THE LION KING Scores Another Worldwide Box Office Milestone

MUFASA: THE LION KING has hit the $700 million mark, roaring past SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 3 in its 11th week of release.
MUFASA boasts the seventh-place spot in the top 10 movies of 2024. DUNE: PART TWO is ahead by $15 million, but MUFASA could step ahead as it is expected to end its run with $710 to $720 million at the box office. It is the fourth biggest Disney success of 2024, in line behind INSIDE OUT 2, DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE and MOANA 2, which all passed the $1 billion worldwide mark.
The movie is currently available to rent or stream and is still playing in 2,000 theaters across America.
MUFASA used the world’s best photo-realistic animation techniques to bring the original movie’s cartoon characters to life. The Academy Awards shortlisted it for Best Visual Effects.
Director Jon Favreau and his team worked hard to make the movie look realistic.
“It was nice to be able to say, ‘Hey let’s really look at what a leaf looks like or the way water moves, or the way the wind blows grass — and create, just really beautiful, arresting images,” he said in an interview.

MUFASA: THE LION KING is an animated action adventure musical. It tells the exciting story of how Simba’s father became King. Young Mufasa and his family were living in a drought-ravaged land. They are heading toward Milele, a lush land beyond the horizon. A sudden thunderstorm creates a flood. It sweeps Mufasa far away, to a savannah. Mufasa becomes adopted by another pride. He makes friends with Taka, the royal heir. When a pride of large white lions threatens, Taka’s father sends Taka and Mufasa away. They head toward Milele. The white lions, however, are close on their trail.
MUFASA: THE LION KING is a beautifully animated adventure story with lots of jeopardy. The movie has great voice work by the entire cast and at least two highly memorable songs. Even better, MUFASA: THE LION KING has strong, inspiring ideas on what makes a great leader. For example, Mufasa’s love and compassion eventually helps unite the animals in a Promised Land. MUFASA also has a pro-family perspective that’s pro-adoption. That said, some of the action and fighting in MUFASA is too intense for children.
