MULTIPLIED Documentary Reveals Growth in Christianity: ‘Modern-day Jesus Revolution’
By Movieguide® Contributor
A new documentary called MULTIPLIED displays the massive growth of Christianity throughout the world in what seems to be a “modern-day Jesus Revolution.”
“In MULTIPLIED, Director Chris Worthington sets out to document what the future of evangelism looks like,” the synopsis begins.
“In this fast-paced, comedic, and eye opening travel documentary, Chris invites you to attend a three-stadium Christian gathering in Brazil, get stranded in a West-African dust storm, get shot at on the way to a 400,000-person Gospel event, and ultimately discover that it’s no longer about a select few famous evangelists, but about an entire generation of people just like YOU,” it continues.
“Christianity is exploding, especially in Africa,” Worthington told The Christian Post. “I saw it for myself and got it all on camera. It’s about showing the reality that it’s not just about a few famous evangelists anymore but about an entire generation preaching the Gospel. It’s about you and me; it’s about the normal person. I think that’s how Jesus wanted it from the beginning.”
While Worthington, a 24-year-old Gen Z filmmaker, traveled to different countries, he began to hear of the persecution Christians face.
“One week before we got to Nigeria, we were informed that a terrorist organization killed a pastor and his entire family, and we were doing a 500,000-person Gospel event right there,” he described.
“On the way, we got trapped in a dust storm, so we couldn’t fly and had to go on a really dangerous highway. We met a guy…who pulled out a silver Glock,” he shared. “I’ll never forget it. He knew who we were; he pointed straight at us, right at my head. I saw the evil in his eyes, and at that moment, I thought, ‘I guess this is where it ends.”
Although Worthington faced a near-death experience, he continued to film and do what God called him to do.
“The more the more you get attacked, the more things that try to go wrong, things that are obviously spiritual warfare, the better you’re doing. So just keep pushing through it, because you’re going to change the world that way,” he urged.
MULTIPLIED will release as a Fathom event in theaters on May 20 and 21.
Movieguide® previously reported on Gen Z’s heart for evangelism:
A recent Barna study investigated Gen Z’s approach to evangelism and faith in a digital world, uncovering surprising differences between today’s teens and other generations.
Barna’s study with Alpha USA and Alpha Canada found that more than “half of teens lean on actions rather than words when sharing their faith.”
“Half believe ‘letting your actions speak rather than using words to explain your faith’ and ‘inviting someone to attend a church service with you’ (50% each) are acts of evangelism,” the study found.
“Other actions they largely view as evangelism include ‘telling your personal story about how you came to be a Christian’ (48%), ‘telling someone about benefits/changes experienced when following Jesus’ (48%) and ‘praying with someone’ (47%),” it continues.
“Despite being the most digital-savvy generation,” the study adds, “just under three in 10 Christian Gen Z (28%) say sharing digital/online content with someone is a form of evangelism.”
