‘My Heart Is Just Bursting’: Al Roker Gets Emotional During TODAY Show Return
By Movieguide® Contributor
Al Roker has made his return to the TODAY show, and he and his co-anchors are feeling emotional.
“To say we have missed you doesn’t even begin to describe it,” Savannah Guthrie said after seeing Roker walk back on set. “It is nothing without you here.”
Hoda Kotb echoed those statements, saying, “The crew is weepy. The crowd outside, they’ve been waiting for you. They’ve been bummed every day we walk out there like, ‘Where is Al?’”
Roker was equally emotional, calling the cast and crew of TODAY his “second family.”
“I have missed you guys so very much,” he gushed. “It’s just great to be back — and wearing pants! It’s so much fun. My heart is just bursting. I’m just so thrilled to see all of you and the crew. Right now I’m running on adrenaline.”
Roker has been absent from TODAY for almost two months after blood clots in his legs and lungs led to hospitalization.

Al Roker is updating fans on his health after many noticed he has been absent from the morning show for the last two weeks.
In a recent Instagram post, Roker let fans know about the serious health issue he has been dealing with.
“So many of you have been thoughtfully asking where I’ve been,” he wrote. “Last week I was admitted to the hospital with a blood clot in my leg which sent some clots into my lungs. After some medical whack-a-mole, I am so fortunate to be getting terrific medical care and on the way to recovery.”
He continued, “Thanks for all the well wishes and prayers and hope to see you soon. Have a great weekend, everyone.”
TODAY co-anchor Hoda Kotb shared some updates on Roker’s condition, telling viewers “he’s in very good care.”
“He’s resting and his doctors are keeping a close eye on him,” she went on. “Al and his family want everybody to know how grateful they are for all the love, the support and the well wishes.”
Roker’s ongoing health issues have caused him to miss the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade as well as the annual Christmas tree-lighting at Rockefeller Center.
“For the past 27 parades, at this moment, Savannah [Guthrie], we would turn to Al Roker, who is our Today show colleague and our best pal,” Kotb said at the parade broadcast. “But as a lot of you have heard, Al’s recovering — he’s recovering very well from a recent medical issue. And we just want to say, we love you Al. Wondering if you’re watching, but we wish you a full recovery.”
