LAST MAN STANDING Star Says Reuniting With Tim Allen Was ‘Really Fun’

Nancy Travis said appearing on LAST MAN STANDING co-star Tim Allen’s new show, SHIFTING GEARS, felt like a homecoming.
“I got to work with Tim again, not in the role of a wife or a girlfriend, but as a stranger who shares a similar past and is a catalyst for him moving forward after the death of his wife in the show,” she told TheWrap.
Travis appeared as a widow who crosses paths with Allen’s character, Matt, as he visits his wife’s grave on Valentine’s Day.
“It was a very, very interesting character, and I was really excited to jump in and do these scenes with Tim,” she said.
The actress shared that acting alongside Allen again felt like a homecoming, and she even got to give a nod to their LAST MAN STANDING characters, who were husband and wife on the sitcom.
In one scene, Travis tells Allen that the pair could never be in a relationship because he reminds her of the last man she dated.
“It got the biggest laugh. Everyone feels like they’re in on something. It just feels incredibly inclusive,” Travis said. “People that come to a lot of the tapings, I would imagine, are big fans of Tim’s as well as Kat Dennings. But they come to expect certain things, and when they see an actor that he’s worked with before on the show, they’re looking for the wink moment, the inside joke.”
Travis also spoke about the role to Us Weekly, telling the magazine, “It was great. It was really fun to be able to just come in and have a whole wealth of knowledge and rapport working with Tim. In terms of comedic rhythm, knowing how to set up a joke and how to tell a story together, it was great to be able to take that and apply it to [my character].”

SHIFTING GEARS stars Allen as a car restorer who is trying to reconnect with his estranged daughter and her children after they come to live with him. The ABC sitcom is already massively popular.
Variety reported that the show is now “the most-watched ABC series premiere on streaming to date, via first seven days of views on both Hulu and the Hulu portion of Disney+.”
They added that the premiere averaged “close to 17 million views” on all platforms, including linear television and reruns, as well as streaming.
