Candace Cameron Bure sat down with her daughter Natasha Bure and influencer Allie Schnacky on her podcast to discuss how we can know what our God-given purpose is in life.
Schnacky discussed how sometimes God will put a purpose on our hearts, but it takes time to come to pass.
“It reminds me so much of the story of Joseph in the Bible,” she told Bure. “When God gave him a vision, He gave him a dream. And instead of that dream coming true right away, it took 13 years for him to become second in command in Egypt.”
In Genesis, Joseph was sold into prison by his brothers. Genesis 41:46 says, “Joseph was thirty years old when he entered the service of Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from Pharaoh’s presence and traveled throughout Egypt.” This was 13 years after his captivity.
Instead of focusing on what God has for us in the future, Schnacky believes we should focus on what He has for us in the present moment.
“What that taught me was God has a process for things and what He’s looking for us to do right now is just ask ourselves the question, ‘God, what have you given me right now? And how can I use it to bring glory to you?'”
This is consistent with what Jesus teaches us in the Bible. Matthew 6:34 tells us, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
Bure’s daughter Natasha chimed in on what she believes our purpose is: “Our main job is to be disciples of every nation and to spread, you know, the love of Jesus, and I think that that looks different for every person given the tools that you have, the interests that you have.”
She continued by explaining how working “in ministry” doesn’t always look like working in a church.
“I think that when someone says, well, I’m called to ministry, that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re working in a church. You could be on social media, you could be advocating for young girls, you could be on the set, you could be a schoolteacher,” she said.
At the same time, Natasha believes that we have different gifts and talents for a God-given reason.

“I do think that God equips us and gives us gifts, and it’s our job to even hone in to those things because…it’s just going to make the biggest impact,”she explained. “And so, if you have a gift with music, how can I use my voice to impact the kingdom, to worship him? If I have a gift of storytelling, how can I further the kingdom in that regard?”
Recently Bure and her daughter Natasha have been working together more and moving forward in God’s purpose for their lives together. Last week, they posted a cute voiceover video to Instagram about being “friends.”
No matter where you are in life, God has a purpose. Instead of focusing and worrying about what God has for you in the future, focus on what He has for you today and loving people in the present.
