NBA Star David Robinson Says ‘Incredible Things Happen’ When You Let God Work Through You

Two-time NBA champ David Robinson has found tons of success on the basketball court, but he says it was his Christian faith, not his talent, that put him where he is today.
Robinson initially planned for a military career, joining the Navy. However, a growth spurt that made him 7’1 meant he could no longer serve on Navy ships.
While he didn’t yet understand that “it was God’s plan,” Robinson trusted the process and soon became a basketball star for the San Antonio Spurs.
Robinson had everything, but for him, something was missing.
“I knew that I was chasing [others’ success],” he shared. “I had to understand that God was going to make room for me. I didn’t have to be those guys, and so that’s how my faith really played a big role for me and allowed me to relax a bit and just be myself.”
Robinson also pointed to his career in the military when talking about his success.
“I think my experience in the military really taught me that when the team is successful, each of us is going to be successful,” he explained.
The basketball player used his money and success to start the Carver Academy, a tuition-free school for underprivileged students. 100% of the school’s students have gone on to attend college.
Even though Robinson’s hard work has given him success and the tools to help others, the basketball player is quick to point out that God is the one who has pushed him to do “incredible things.”
“All the things I can do by my own strength are not very impressive,” Robinson laughed. “They’re things anyone could do!”
He continued, “But when I trust in what God has placed in me and I just let Him work through me, incredible things happen!”
