NCIS: TONY & ZIVA Will Navigate Parenthood While Saving the World

Former NCIS stars Michael Weatherly (Tony DiNozzo) and Cote de Pablo (Ziva David) are bringing their characters to a new spinoff, but NCIS: TONY & ZIVA will differ somewhat from previous NCIS shows.
“The series, set to stream on Paramount+, focuses on their NCIS characters, Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David, after they have left the agency, and are bringing up their daughter, Tali, in Paris,” Variety reported. “When Tony’s security company is attacked, they must go on the run across Europe, try to figure out who is after them and maybe even learn to trust each other again so that they can finally have their unconventional happily ever after.”
While at the Monte Carlo TV Festival, de Pablo explained that after their characters left the show, fans always wanted to know “‘Whatever happened to Tony and Ziva, do you think they’ll ever get back together, where are they?’ And all of a sudden, we had the opportunity to put it together into a show.”
“We’re trying to address all of these questions, and the idea of trust, and how they move forward…they’re trying to make things work while also parenting and having a lot of challenges thrown at them,” she added.
As for the differences between the original NCIS and NCIS: TONY & ZIVA, “We wanted to take these two characters away from the Agency and put them in a world, and the world that was attractive to us was international,” de Pablo described without revealing too much of the plot.
Weatherly also chimed in and discussed a new challenge the couple will face as they now have a child.
“Every choice that Tony and Ziva have to make in their adventure, their child is first and foremost in the front of their mind,” he explained. “When we were on the NCIS the mothership, we didn’t have children.
He continued: “When you have a child, you have to navigate what is best for them. And then maybe you have a co-parent that you have a tumultuous relationship with…and oh, wait, we also have to save the world.”
After the Festival, Weatherly shared on his social media, “It felt wonderful to bring #tiva back to the #ncisverse in such an elegant setting. Cote and I gave lots of interviews and took lots of pictures and most importantly met so many fans! I will put this in my cherished memories file!”

The stars of the series, Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo, revealed the name on a Zoom meeting on Tuesday, which Weatherly posted to his Instagram.
“It makes it really easy because the fans will know exactly what the show is. It’s about Tony and Ziva in Europe,” de Pablo said.
“I expect intrigue, romance, the background of Europe. Impossible situations that will make our life very complicated. But somehow, a little something about love,” she added.
Weatherly ended with a joke.
“You know what Tony is spelled backwards?” he asked. “Y not,” de Pablo responded.
