‘Something’s Change’: Neal McDonough Says Hollywood Wants Faith Content
By Movieguide® Contributor
Is Hollywood going to start making more wholesome content? Actor and producer Neal McDonough says it might if audiences keep supporting uplifting movies.
“There is definitely a need for films that talk about faith — talk about family, talk about the what-ifs of life,” McDonough told podcast host Glenn Beck. “Going out and buying tickets to films like this — that’s the message you’re directly sending to Los Angeles.”
Several creators have contributed to the uptick of family-friendly content.
“Whether it’s Angel Studios, whether it’s the amazing Erwin Brothers, whether it’s Dallas Jenkins, whether it’s the Kendricks, whoever it is who’s going out on a limb and telling stories of faith so the whole family can go to a theater,” he said.
Audiences aren’t the only ones craving more wholesome content. McDonough said that for the first time in his career, studios are as well.
“Never, ever, ever have I seen before four or five [studios] saying, ‘Oh by the way, if you have something of faith, we’re very interested this year,’” he said. “Something’s changed.”
His latest project, HOMESTEAD, just released in theaters last month.
The movie “really brings us to question ourselves and our integrity. We call ourselves people of faith. Well, when push comes to shove, are we really? And that’s what I love about this film,” he said, per The Blaze.
HOMESTEAD has lots of energy and momentum that drives the movie forward into a thought-provoking thriller. Neal McDonough delivers a strong performance as the wealthy man. HOMESTEAD has a strong Christian worldview promoting family and prayer. It raises some valid ethical questions in a scenario that feels realistic in today’s world. Fear leads good people to sin against their neighbors. However, Jesus tells us in Matthew 17:6, “Do not be afraid.” Eventually, the characters in HOMESTEAD learn that faith and trust in God can lift them up from the ashes. HOMSTEAD has some intense scenes of peril, chaos and violence. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for teenagers and adults.

Faith is important to McDonough, and he credits his wife for his spiritual growth and victory over alcoholism.
“I’ve been blessed because I’ve had a person who’s alongside there with me pushing me and helping me get to be the best version of myself possible,” McDonough said. “There’s my relationship with God — the closer I get to God or the closer any of us get to God the more humbling it becomes.”
