Netflix Isn’t Playing Around When It Comes to Gaming
By Movieguide® Contributor
Netflix continues to eye gaming as a key growth area to attract new subscribers and keep fans engaged with their favorite Netflix IPs.
“I think the idea of being able to take a show and give the superfan a place to be in between seasons and even beyond that — to be able to use the game platform to introduce new characters and new storylines or new plot twist events — now you could do those kinds of things, and then they can then materialize in the next season or in the sequel to the film,” said co-CEO Ted Sarandos.
“It’s a really great opportunity and a rare on where 1 and 1 equals 3 here, and to kind of replicate some of the success we’ve seen building fandom and with live events and consumer products, this actually fits really nicely into that,” he continued.
Sarandos’ comments came after Netflix announced it would begin debuting a new “Netflix Stories” game every month, providing fans of the most popular Netflix Originals further ways to interact with the series.
The company will also continue to develop larger games such as a multiplayer SQUID GAME offering which will launch in tandem with Season 2 of the hit show.
While the penetration of Netflix’s games within its subscribers remains low, the company continues to believe in its video game offerings. The Netflix Games service launched roughly three years ago and has since released over 100 games under the banner. The company’s development rate has grown substantially as it now has over 80 games in production.
The continued expansion into the gaming world follows Netflix’s strategy to break into new markets beyond streaming. Next year the company plans on launching real-life entertainment centers to offer next-level experiences to its fans.

Netflix will open two new gigantic shopping, entertainment and dining complexes, called “Netflix Houses,” in Dallas and King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, in 2025.
They’ll “feature a wide array of shopping outlets, eateries and experiential activities tied to the streamer’s major franchises like ‘Bridgerton,’ ‘Stranger Things’ and ‘Squid Game,’” reported Variety on Tuesday.
Pennsylvania’s Netflix House will occupy a former department store near Philadelphia. Texas’s will be added to the Dallas Galleria mall. Each complex will span more than 100,000 sq ft.
Netflix Experiences
Netflix currently offers individual experiences across the world based on BRIDGERTON, KNIVES OUT, ARMY OF THE DEAD, STRANGER THINGS, LIFE ON OUR PLANET, and OUR PLANET.
The “Netflix House” experience is part of a plan to point consumers back to Netflix’s streaming service.
