Faith-Based Netflix Movie to Get TV Series This Fall

By Movieguide® Contributor

Netflix’s faith-based musical A WEEK AWAY will get a new TV series come fall.

The 2021 movie made it into Netflix’s Top 10 list for the US at No. 5 and No. 3 worldwide. It’s about a teenage boy who finds redemption and romance at a summer camp. Movieguide® nominated it for several Teddy Bear® awards.

“We’re very excited about it,” Monarch Media’s Alan Powell said. “There are some faces that you’ll recognize, but it’s going to be a lot of new characters as well.”

The lead actors for the movie are Bailee Madison and Kevin Quinn, but it’s not clear which of the movie’s cast will return for the show. However, much of the same creative team will be a part of the new series.

“The same guy that did all the music for us in the film is coming back, [along with] the same choreographer, same DP [director of photography],” Powell added. “So there’s going to be a lot of similarities in storytelling. And if you like the film, certainly you’re going to like the series. But we are excited to tell a longer version of the story, dive into these characters a little bit more, do more music, have more fun.”

“When music and film come together, it’s the most impactful thing for me, personally, emotionally,” Powell added.

The show, called A WEEK AWAY: THE SERIES, will launch through Angel Studios this fall. Fans can sign up for updates on the show through the Angel Studios website.

Angel Studios said it’s “a musical series that follows the journey of teenagers navigating through troubled experiences in the foster system. Their lives take a transformative turn when they attend a summer camp that defies expectations.”

“We’re going back to the same camp, [but] the calendar has continued to turn; there’s new kids that are coming to this camp with new backgrounds and new baggage, and new excitement,” Powell said. “And so we wanted to explore those stories.”
