New Movie SUN MOON Explores ‘Having The Faith To Follow God’
By Movieguide® Contributor
A new AFFIRM Original Movie, SUN MOON, is getting ready to hit Pure Flix!
SUN MOON follows Kelsey (played by MacKenzie Mauzy), who is left at the altar by her fiance. In an effort to escape her problems, Kelsey travels to Taiwan to teach English. There, she meets new people, has new experiences, and rediscovers God’s plan for her life.
“My character, Kelsey, is trying to figure out what’s left of her life after her fiance ends their relationship. Everything has fallen apart for her and she’s hurt and confused,” Mauzy shared. “I think it’s a really relatable story where we feel like we’re at the bottom but those moments shape our perspective as we move forward and discover opportunities that might have never existed before.”
In addition to Mauzy, SUN MOON stars Justin Chien, Madison McLaughlin, and Michael Jong-Quin Huang. The movie was written and directed by Sydney Tooley, who says SUN MOON was inspired by her own life.
Tooley also traveled to Taiwan to teach English after a difficult time in her life, and she used her experiences there to write the script.
“SUN MOON is a story about hope during the dark times where God is asking us to step out in faith and do intimidating things,” Tooley explained. “It reminds me of the phrase ‘Jesus take the wheel.’ I don’t know where they think they’re going but sometimes you find yourself off-roading in the jungle without a map.”
She continued, “In the movie, Kelsey has to decide if she’ll follow the map that God has given her. She learns that having the faith to follow God as the mapmaker isn’t always the easiest choice but ultimately He’ll lead you back to the things that are most important.”
SUN MOON will premiere exclusively on Pure Flix on May 5, 2023.
