New Netflix Series to Be Released Based Off Dolly Parton Songs
By Tess Farrand, Staff Writer
“Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene…” We all know the tune, but now this title character is making its way to a new series on Netflix.
Announced yesterday via The Hollywood Reporter, Julianne Hough (ROCK OF AGES, SAFE HEAVEN) will play Jolene in the new series, DOLLY PARTON’S HEARTSTRINGS.
Each episode will follow a different Parton song that the starlet will introduce herself as well as act. In the episode about the song “Jolene”, Parton will play the character “Babe,” an owner of a local honky-tonk in Georgia. In classic country fashion, Jolene (played by Hough) aspires to have a big career in music and escape her small-town roots.
HEARTSTRINGS will also feature Dallas Roberts (Netflix’s INSATIABLE) and Kimberly Williams-Paisley (NASHVILLE) and will be reminiscent of the story structure of DOLLY PARTON’S COAT OF MANY COLORS.
Hough expressed her excitement for the project with her castmates, including Parton, on her Twitter.
Such an honor to be working with Kimberly & Dallas, and of course the one & only @DollyParton. Dolly, you are a true Artist, legend, Icon & Hero for so many. Keep spreading your love & changing the world through your creativity & passion! I can’t wait to bring Jolene to life! ❤️ pic.twitter.com/lFeY88e9cS

DOLLY PARTON’S HEARTSTRINGS is set to release sometime in 2019 with all eight episodes available at once, as per usual Netflix protocol. The series is also produced by Sam Haskell, who produced the Movieguide® Award Winning NBC specials DOLLY PARTON’S COAT OF MANY COLORS and the Christmas sequel.
