NFL Rookie Glorifies God After Historic Win: ‘Nothing Without Him’

The Washington Commanders drafted quarterback Jayden Daniels, the number two overall in the 2024 NFL draft, and their pick has paid off as Daniels has led the team to an impressive 2024 season start.
“Daniels completed 21 of 23 passes for two touchdowns while rushing for another in a 38-33 upset victory over Cincinnati, raising the Commanders’ record to 2-1 while also raising eyebrows across the league. His completion percentage of 91.3 percent is a new record for rookie quarterbacks,” Crosswalk Headlines reported.
After the game, Daniels told ESPN, “We’re just executing — executing at a high level. I give credit to my o-line, give credit to my receivers, my running backs and, most importantly, give credit to God.”
When the reporter told him of his rookie record, the quarterback was in disbelief.
“That’s crazy. Give glory to God. I wouldn’t be in this business without Him. So I can’t do nothing without Him,” the Heisman Trophy winner said.
Former Washington quarterback and now sports analyst Robert Griffin III posted Daniels’ interview on X and wrote, “Jayden Daniels just played the game of his life. Set an NFL record for the highest completion percentage in a game EVER for a rookie. Had more total touchdowns than incompletions. And what does he do when asked about it? He gives All THE GLORY TO GOD. He gets it. He TRUSTS GOD.”
Glorifying God isn’t anything new for Daniels, though. He thanked Him after his Heisman Trophy win last year, as Movieguide® reported:
“Thank you. This is a dream come true. I want to first give thanks to God, for all the glory. He’s my rock, my savior. He blessed me with the talents and ability to get here, all the special people here to develop these skills,” Daniels began. “To Bo, Mike, Marvin…you guys are amazing. I enjoy watching you all but the competition is never over. I look forward to seeing you guys on Sundays.”
Daniels credits LSU player relations manager Sherman Wilson for helping him grow in his faith.
“He’s behind the scenes, but he’s like my right-hand man,” Daniels said of Wilson in a November interview. “Being around him brought me back to my faith even more and helped me always give glory to God. He died on the cross for us. With God, anything is possible. Here, coming back and trying to figure out my life, I wanted to stop putting so much pressure on myself and just give it all to God and let Him take charge.”
He’s vocal about his faith on social media, too. A recent post featured Proverbs 3:5-6, which reads, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
