NFL Star Terry Bradshaw Discusses Cancer Battles, the Power of Prayer
By Movieguide® Contributor
NFL Hall of Famer and two-time cancer survivor Terry Bradshaw recently went on the Jesus Calling podcast, opening up about his health battles and the power of prayer.
“Just everything that I’ve done, everything that I do…all major decisions are all through prayer,” Bradshaw said in a 2008 CBN interview.
The NFL star holds to that today. Bradshaw shared that he likes to speak to God continually, even in the small things.
“I’m a big ‘as-I’m-doing-stuff’ prayer guy,” Bradshaw said on the podcast. “I’m so thankful that prayer is real, prayer is powerful. I believe in it. I’ve seen the miracles from prayer.”
For the two-time cancer survivor, this rings true.
Movieguide® previously reported on the NFL star’s response to his cancer diagnoses. He said, “I wasn’t scared. I don’t know why I never was scared.”
“I may have twenty-five, thirty years left, but I’m going to act like I’ve got one,” Bradshaw said.
On the podcast, Bradshaw recounted his back-to-back battles with bladder cancer and a rare form of skin cancer on his throat.
“The first cancer was bladder cancer,” Bradshaw shared. “They said, ‘Hey, you got bladder cancer, and we’ll start treatments in three weeks.’… then we finished a six-week program. And we had a month—I believe it was about a month off—to go back and check and see how we’re doing. And the report was good.
“[Then] I was getting a spasm in the right side of my neck, and it hurt like crazy…They did an MRI and said, ‘You have a tumor in your neck, your throat.’ I sat in for a biopsy—went right to the lab with it and came back and said, ‘You’ve got a rare form of skin cancer. It’s called Merkel Cell cancer,'” he added.
Bradshaw underwent successful treatment for both and is completely cancer free. He credits his wife for her vigilant care.
“I wouldn’t have done an MRI. And then this thing would have been stage III, stage IV, and heaven knows what would have happened,” Bradshaw said. “So I’m thankful to her for that. I’d probably be a dead man, because I would not go to a doctor. No way.”
“I can’t put into words how thankful I am for her,” he added.
Through his health struggles, Bradshaw continued to rely on his faith and revealed how he found peace during these difficult moments.
“The only person, the only thing that’s ever going to bring us total peace, is going to be the assurance that God sent Jesus as our Savior. And if we believe in Him, we have eternal life,” he shared.

NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw recently shared that he has battled cancer twice this year — and won…
“A lot of people are asking what’s wrong with me, what’s happened to me physically. I just want to address it and let you know what has happened in my life,” Bradshaw started…
“In November, I was diagnosed with bladder cancer. I went to the Yale University Medical Center – surgery, treatment. As of today, I am bladder-cancer free. That’s the good news. Then in March, feeling good. I had a bad neck. I get an MRI. Now we find a tumor in my left neck. And it’s a Merkel cell tumor, which is a rare form of skin cancer. So I had that surgery done at M.D. Anderson in Houston. Folks, I may not look like my old self, but I feel like my old self. I’m cancer free, I’m feeling great. And over time, I’m going to be back to where I normally am.”
