NHL Player Brandon Carlo Scores Goal and Baby Boy on Same Day: ‘So Thankful’

Boston Bruins defenseman Brandon Carlo secured a goal in a 5-1 victory over the Florida Panthers on Monday.

However, that’s not the only thing he’s celebrating this week.

Carlo and his wife, Mayson, welcomed baby boy Crew Corbett Carlo at 3 a.m. on Monday, as well.

In a post-game press conference that day, Carlo told the media how his last 24 hours went.

“So thankful, so proud of my wife…it was incredible, the support that [the Bruins] gave me and enabled me to get down here as fast as possible. Definitely wanted to play, and I’m very happy I did. A great 24 hours and a lot of fun,” he said.

Per Sports Spectrum, Carlo “learned after Boston’s emotional Game 7 win on Saturday night that Mayson was headed to the hospital to prepare to deliver their son. The couple spent all of Sunday waiting, and in the early morning hours on Monday, the doctors decided it was time.”

Twelve hours later, Carlo was playing in Game 1 of the second round of the NHL playoffs.

In an interview with Scott Van Pelt on SPORTSCENTER, Carlo admitted he “doesn’t score very often so, that was a play there by God for sure.”

Carlo puts his faith at the forefront of his life. In his Instagram bio, Carlo declares, “Live by faith not by sight.”

That phrase comes from 2 Corinthians 5:7, a verse that has helped Carlo many times, so much so that he got it tattooed on his right arm.

In 2020, Carlo talked about the COVID-19 pandemic and what God could teach people amid lockdown.

“It’s been interesting to have the time to take a step back and recognize things with faith,” Carlo said. “To a point, I think God may be telling us to slow down a little bit in life. My tattoo has come into real life at this time…I’ve got it tattooed on my body for a reason. It’s something I truly believe, something that I’ve been trying to focus on living by each and every day.”
