Niall Horan Shares Blake Shelton’s Words of Wisdom on THE VOICE

By Movieguide® Contributor

Niall Horan just shared what Blake Shelton told him following his big win on THE VOICE.

Horan, who was a rookie coach on this year’s season of THE VOICE, was the big winner of season 23, alongside his team member, Gina Miles.

He recently shared what Shelton had to say to him immediately following the win.

“When we left the seat, they announced the winner and I stood up, and then he came for a big hug,” Horan laughed. “I gave him a big hug, and he said, ‘I taught you everything you know.’ That’s all he said, not congratulations or anything.”

Even though Shelton might have been bummed about losing his final season on THE VOICE, Horan said the pair got close while filming the show.

“I’m going to miss him,” Horan said. “He is not one of those famous friends, in my eyes. I think if I had met him outside of THE VOICE, I would have probably been friends with him anyway. Weirdly enough, we’ve got a lot in common, we’re quite similar people. Though not in dress sense.”

Horan is also already looking ahead to the next season of THE VOICE, where he will compete alongside Gwen Stefani, John Legend, and Reba McEntire.

“I’m going to miss [Blake], but I get to work with the other half of that marriage,” Horan said. “I met Gwen at the afterparty for this season’s VOICE. She came and surprised Blake on the last night, and she was so funny and so cool, so I’m excited.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Shelton’s exit from THE VOICE:

After 12 years, Blake Shelton announced that he plans to retire as a judge on the popular singing competition series, THE VOICE, after next season.

In an Instagram post, the country star wrote:

I’ve been wrestling with this for a while and I’ve decided that it’s time for me to step away from The Voice after next season.

This show has changed my life in every way for the better and it will always feel like home to me. It’s been [quite] a ride over these 12 years of chair turns and I want to thank everyone at The Voice from NBC, every producer, the writers, musicians, crew and catering people, you are the best. It takes a lot of work, passion, and adult beverages (Ha!) to pull off a live show twice a week.

I’ve made lifelong bonds with Carson and every single one of my fellow coaches over the years, including my wife Gwen Stefani!

I have to give a huge shoutout to the singers — the ‘Voices,’ who come on this stage season after season and amaze us with their talent and a special thanks to those who chose me to be their coach.

Lastly, it’s about y’all, the fans, who watch and support these artists, us coaches and everyone at The Voice who are chasing their dreams.

It would not happen without you!
