Nick Vujicic Says Church Must Address Sexual Sin: ‘Reveal, Repent And Restore’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Evangelist Nick Vujicic recently discussed why churches must address sexual sin and pornography addiction.
“Let’s talk about your pornographic addiction,” he started. “When was the last time you actually saw pornography?… It’s scientifically proven that, when you’re pornographically addicted, it rewires your brain.”
Vujicic continued, “We are getting rewired. We are supposed to be renewed in our mind. So what happens is we get comfortable, and we get lazy, and we just look for coping mechanisms to feel OK. Just because you feel OK this week doesn’t mean anything.”
A 2018 study found that “91.5% of men and 60.2% of women herein reported having consumed pornography in the past month.”
Movieguide® has previously reported on the addictive nature of pornography:
Once involved in obscene materials they kept coming back for more and still more. The material provided a powerful sexual stimulant followed by sexual release, most often through masturbation. The pornography provided exciting fantasies which they recalled in their fantasies.
Vujicic encouraged those living in sexual sin to “reveal, repent, and restore,” adding, “Part of repentance is something called accountability.”
“I’m not addicted to any pornography. I’m not addicted to drugs. I’m not addicted. I’m also not sacrificing my family for ministry. I’ve seen too many people not finish strong. Why? Because I have accountability,” he explained. “I make sure my family comes first. I make sure that we do all that we can to hunger and thirst for righteousness. That’s what we need to do.”
“We need to get real,” he added. “There’s healing and there’s power. If you’re addicted and you’re going through something and there’s something…you need to now confess that sin. The Holy Spirit’s now convicted you.”
“Say, ‘Jesus, I’m a sinner. Forgive me. Change me. Give me courage to talk to somebody. I can’t do this on my own. Devil, get behind me in Jesus’ name. I am the Lord’s. Help me to walk away from sin and help me, God, to push into You, abide in You, in Jesus’ name I pray, amen,’” the evangelist concluded.
In another interview, Vujicic encouraged church leaders to face difficult topics like sexual sin, abuse and trauma head-on.
“I hope that this wakes us up as a people of God, to come together in unity like never before, pray for our country, pray for a man of God to lead our country and put our country back under God,” he said.
Movieguide® has previously reported on the dangers of exposure to pornography:
As a clinical psychologist who treated over 240 sex offenders or individuals (95% male) with sexual illnesses, Dr. Victor Cline has found that there’s a universal four factor syndrome common to nearly all sex offenders with almost no exceptions:
First was an addiction effect. Once involved in obscene materials they kept coming back for more and still more. The material provided a powerful sexual stimulant followed by sexual release, most often through masturbation. The pornography provided exciting fantasies which they recalled in their fantasies.
Secondly, there was an escalation effect. With the passage of time, they required more explicit, rougher, more deviant sexual material to get their “highs.” It was reminiscent of those individuals afflicted with drug addictions.
Third was desensitization. Material that were originally perceived as shocking, taboo breaking, repulsive, or immoral became acceptable and commonplace. The sexual activity they witnessed (no matter how gross or deviant) in time became legitimized.
Fourth was an increasing tendency to ACT OUT SEXUALLY the behaviors viewed in the pornography they viewed and read − including compulsive promiscuity, exhibitionism, group sex, voyeurism, having sex with children, rape, and inflicting pain on themselves or a partner during sex. This behavior quickly grew into a sexual addiction which they found themselves hooked on and unable to change or reverse − no matter what the consequences in their life.[vii]
